3. Phila. GEORGE EVANS, Blackface King:- 4th week. 20 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 3:59--9:33. Received as strong advance applause as previous, showing that there were none displeased with Evans' long engagement. Had an entire new line of talk, songs and local hits, and had them going and laughing uproarously within thirty seconds. Closed as usual by getting the gallery to whistle to one of his travesties on the "Good Old Summer Time". Finish big as ever. this man is a genius of a high order in humor MANNING'S ENTERTAINERS, "A Hotel Porter":- 17 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 4:17--9:53. This is a rough-and-tumble pot-pourri of knock-about comedy somewhat on the old Charley Hoyt a "Bunch of Keys" order. It is entirely incoherent and yet there are so many ludicrous incidents, and such swift acrobatic and comedy work that it keeps up a running fire of laughter even if the fun is a little of a rougher order, and makes a stronger gallery bid than orchestra. Five men carry this act, two of them skilful tumblers and the others taking various characters, hotel porter, proprietor, English guest, the policeman, etc. Not the sort of closer that this house demands, and leaves no distinct impression for originality. However, it passes. KINETOGRAPH:- GRAND PRIZE MOTOR RACES, Very interesting and timely films for all classes of people whether motor-enthusiasts or not. PALS, OR MY FRIEND THE DUMMY:-Popular comedy feature, about the ordinary, "running" farce. Received a good many laughs. BON MORSE, Comedy sketch:-Tramp cyclist, 10 min. F.S. On at 4:53--6:22--3 shows. Varies the usual monotony of the fairly good cycle work with some comedy that holds the attention, even if it does not elicit much applause. O.K. in this place (supper) section. REMARKS,-Show as a whole below our standard, being deficient in the three-a-day section and lacking a good closing feature,-something that will make people talk. Too many musical specialties and deficient in sight-acts. Early section goes slowly, the audiences waking at about eight o'clock, from which point it runs well to the close. Weather ideal and business big.
