129 (Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of Oct. 8, 1906. Archer & Crocker. On at 1 O'clock, 12 min, full stage. A very good comedy-acrobatic act for the three-show section. Gertrude Gebest. On at 1.12, 10 min, in 1. I fail to find her excuse for being on the stage. She certainly acts very much like an amateur, and why she wears the costume she does is beyond me. The Burkes. On at 1.22, 16 min, full stage. Can close in 1 if necessary. Very fair three-a-day act. The man's piano-playing is excellent. The woman does not class with him as an entertainer. Pucella & Orben. On at 1.38, 10 min, in 1. these boys are wonderful wooden-shoe dancers, and on their dancing could hold almost any place on the bill for about 7 min. Their singing is a little queer. Fred & Pauly. On at 1.48, 10 min, full stage. A really excellent gymnastic act, introducing many novel tricks. They could hold a spot well down on the program without any trouble. Mabel Sinclair. On at 1.58, 15 min, in 1. "The Premier Female Ventriloquist" is far from being a beauty, and her gowns are very tawdry. Her "wheezes" are very English and are of the vintage of 1876. Her work as a ventriloquist is good. Barry & Halvers. On at 2.13, 18 min in all, 12 min full stage, 6 min in 1. A very comedy act, Barry's eccentric dancing being the feature. Will make good in any bill. "Princess Trixie". On at 2.31, 20 min, full stage. I see no reason to change my opinion that she is the best single horse I have ever seen on the stage. She can do 40 minutes, if necessary, without in any way tiring the audience, and certainly makes people talk. Elinore Sisters. On at 2.51, 19 min, in 1. The same old hit; as a laugh-maker Kate Elinore is the limit. Mr. & Mrs. Crane. On at 3.11, 31 min, full stage. This act did not come up to my expectations, yesterday afternoon, but went better last night, and better this afternoon. It seems a little draggy in spots, and I think it should be trimmed down to play in about 25 minutes. The Village Choir. On at 3.42, 15 min, in 1. They more than made good in this spot. A very acceptable vocal offer. Wylie's Dogs. On at 3.57, 10 min, full stage, special set representing a circus ring with the audience seated around it. An excellent act, with many novelties. During the first part of the act the dogs work alone, in the latter part they are handled by Wylie in a clown makeup. There is one dog that is one of the best that I have ever seen, performing some wonderful feats. Fields & Ward. On at 4.07, 18 min, in 1. Opening with a good parody, they go into a new line of talk that is bright and full of laughs. They close with one of fields' characteristic medleys of popular songs. Kinetograph. On at 4.30, 20 min. Showing the Grand Prix motor races in Paris, a very interesting film; and "Pals", a fair comic picture. Cuts were as follows: Elinore Sisters; "For God's sake". Mr. & mrs. Crane; "Damned"; "To hell with it", and "God's handiwork". Remarks. An entertaining show, Mr. & Mrs. Crane's act being the only one that did not come up to expectations. I think, however, the people will talk a lot about the act, at that. The sight acts, including Fred & Pauly, "Princess Trixie", Wylie's Dogs and Morris Cronin & Co., are particularly excellent.
