2.- Phila. JAS. H. CULLEN, Monologuist:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:29. Quite woke up the house with his travesties and stories which followed one after the other very rapidly, and got the house strong. In fact, the jury insisted upon several encores. Close was very good. Cullen could hold a better place if necessary. HARRY GILFOIL, "Baron Sands":- 18 min. F.S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:44. Well known on the Circuit. Big advance applause. Very little variation to his usual act, with the exception of a new song in the close in 1. Nothing to say except that he went as big as ever, and can always be relied upon to hold any good spot. Closed as usual strong. CONN AND CONRAD, "The Quiet Burglar", acrobats:- 13 min. F.S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:02. Somewhat to our surprise this act went with a shout. The first part consists of a burglary in which there is some good comedy, but the principal fun is in the close in 1 on a pole and trapese which is not only very expert work, but full of original fun. Appeals strongly to all classes. This act holds down this spot very acceptably. "THE GEMS", Entertainers:- 18 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:16. (2nd week) Good advance applause. Practically the same act as was criticized last week. Introduced new song which was delightfully rendered and caught the house. This is undoubtedly one of the daintiest and most entertaining acts in Vaudeville and would make good anywhere. N.B.-This act does not close in 1. We tried it last week, but it was a failure. After their final dance, the quartette tried a song in 1, but it was plain to be seen that they were exhausted and they could not do it justice. It is a pity that they cannot close in 1, but it cannot be done without an entire shift which would cause it to lose its sequence and a large part of the interest. BERZAC'S CIRCUS:-11 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:34. (2nd week) Went very well as previously. Berzac should be cautioned about his free use of the whip. He was hissed last week on one occasion. Closed immensely. FRANK BUSH, Monologuist:- 18 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:44. Well known on the Circuit. Went as strong as ever. Had some new jokes and stories, and got them laughing from the first. There was not a dull line in his material. Bush is A.1. for this difficult spot on the bill. HARNDIN'S ELECTRIC BALLET:- 7 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 10:02. All that has been previously said about this act is fully justified. It is one of the most beautiful and spectacular effects ever accomplished on any stage, and caught the audience and the Press immediately. At the close there was one curtain call after another, with a storm of applause. It is distinctly novel, and the finish is one of the grandest sensations ever seen. It will certainly draw people to the house this week. The Press is very flattering this morning. Howe, the backer, assures us that it will pull up much stronger during the week. As for the HARNDIN BALLET too much cannot be said in praise of it, and it will undoubtedly draw big business to the house. We have billed it pretty strong and are very fortunate to have it for two weeks. The weather is ideal for show business and the houses are big. FEJ.
