136 Cleveland Show Week of October 15, 1906. (H. A. Daniels) MOONEY & HOLBEIN-- A man and a woman billed as a grotesque singing and dancing act. The billing is mis-leading for there is nothing grotesque about the act. The woman sings some, and it is not very good. The man dances a little and his dancing and contortion work carry the act. They would not close in one and consequently there was a wait of two minutes to set the next act. C.D.F. in three. 13 Min. ALLEINEI AND HIS TRAINED MONKEY, "Peter the great". This man has an ape that does work on the swinging trapeze, the rings, and the horizontal bar. The monkey did not work very well today and had to be whipped repeatedly. The act is a good one but is very short for the money we are paying. F.S. 8 minutes. LEE TUNG FOO-- Chinese baritone singing in German, French, and English. This man appears in a picturesque garb and the novelty of it carries the act. His voice does not amount to much as good baritones go, but we did not expect a great deal for the money. Drop in one. 10 minutes. GERTRUDE MANSFIELD & CARYL WILBUR-- Sketch entitled "61 Prospect St." These people have played this comedy sketch around the circuit and the act is quite well known. It went very well today. In fact it was the first real acting that the audience had a chance to see on this week's bill. A good sketch. C.D.F. in three. 24 minutes. TAYLOR HOLMES-- Monologue. This man opens with his stuttering sketch which wins immediately because of its novelty. His imitations and character studies went very well today and I would not be afraid to put him in a stronger spot on the bill. Drop in one. 20 min. COLONEL GASTON BORDEVERRY-- The Masterk Marksman, billed as the world's greatest rifle shot. He carries two men and two women with him and a ton and a half of props. No doubt this fellow has a pretentious act. However as far as real shooting is concerned I am convinced that he has nothing on McCrea & Poole as was stated in the Detroit criticism last week. Bordeverry has a very good act and his manner of dressing and working it succeeded in holding the closest attention of the audience. I hope to do business with him. F. S. 12 minutes. LEWIS MCCORD & CO.-- Sketch "Her Last rehearsal" There was a two minutes wait before this act. This was the third wait in the show today. McCord's sketch is well known on the circuit although I have not seen it for a couple of years. It is the same sketch behind the scenes that he used to do with the help of the property man. It is a good act to extract laughs from, but I think perhaps it is drawn out too long. Bare stage 28 minutes/ HASSEN BEL ALI'S ARABS-- Too well known for comment. Probably the best closing act in vaudeville. F. S. 11 minutes. KINETOGRAPH--French Soldiers Crossing a River-- Good How the office boy saw the ball game-- Good. COMMENT-- The first three acts on the bill are weak. The monkey act might be a good act if played right and the monkey worked well. Today it fell down. The other two acts Mooney & Holbein, and Lee Tung Foo should never be in a two show house. They are not good enough for 2:30 or later. From Mansfield & Wilbur on the show is a good one.
