143 Cleveland Show Week Of October 22d, 1906. (H. A. Daniels) KINGSLEY & LEWIS-- Sketch "After The Honeymoon." This is the same sketch they have been playing for years. It is really one of the book sketches that can be bought at French's for fifteen cents. The original title of the sketch as French sells it is "My Turn Next." I played the original act here last summer with five people as a sketch for the stock company. while the act did not go bad today it created no great amount of applause or enthusiasm. C.D.F. in three 18 minutes. LILY SEVILLE- Character comedienne. Here is a copy of the act that Louise Henry is doing at present. The make-up, characters, and songs are all copied, but this girl lacks Louise Henry's cleverness. She gives us "Waiting At The Church" and I guess this is about the 498th time it has been sung here in the past two months. After this week i am going to bar the song at the Monday rehearsal for it has become an awful chestnut here in Cleveland. However, this girl is probably worth the money she is getting. Drop in one. 12 minutes. NED NYE, assisted by His Rollicking Girls and The Reid Sisters The girls number six. The Reid sisters materially assist the act with their acrobatic work and dancing. The swings were a novelty, for Cleveland has not had a show that has used them. The act seemed to go quite well, in this spot, but I doubt if it is strong enough to go down at ten o'clock. Nye closed in one against his wishes, and made such a mess of it that I am going to cut out the close in one tonight and put in a wait instead. The act is all right to kill twenty-seven minutes time but will create no great amount of enthusiasm or draw any extra money. F. S. 27 minutes. WATSON'S FARMYARD-- Here is the real hit of the show. It is the only act on the bill that will be talked about, and it is the only act that received sincere laughter and a great amount of applause. If we do any business this week, here is the answer. F. S. 20 minutes. MAJESTIC TRIO-- Two men and a woman. Real coons. Singing and dancing. The Comedian is good. The woman makes a bad appearance, and her voice is cracked. Their work received courteous applause, but the audience didn't go crazy about it, and I would consider three and nine o'clock the limit for this act in Cleveland. The hard spot in one I doubt if they could ever hold down here. Drop in one 15 minutes. CLAYTON WHITE MARIE STUART & CO.-- Sketch entitled "Cabby NO/ 415." Three people in the cast. Mr. White takes the character of a cabman and uses about the same line of talk and make up that he used in his make up as the politician in "Paris." During a part of the act he works straight as he did in "Paris." The specialties of Miss Stuart which include the French song, where she holds up her skirts and the baby talk are both included in this act. The act is really "Paris" over again with the dialogue changed. A good act but will improve with age. C.D.F. in three. 21 minutes. BURKE & DEMPSEY-- Two men. One working straight, the other as rube kid. They have a little cross fire talk and some parodies. After all the dialogue in the preceding act it takes some time for them to get the attention of the audience and for a while the work seemed to drag. It is a very hard spot for them. The greater part of their jokes are on the dead line, and while not really objectionable they are not very wholesome. They received a number of good laughs but the laughs were all obtained with stuff that had a double meaning. I did not cut any of the jokes, for had I started in I would have had to slice out a lot of their talk and I did not care to do it as there was nothing that a broad minded or fair minded person could call vulgar. There are some people who would object to it and might write letters the same as they did about Clayton White's act last year and probably will this year. The boys received the most of their applause on their parodies, which were quite good. If placed differently the act would probably go much better. Drop in one. 14 min.
