147 OCTOBER 29, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. MORTON, TEMPLE & MORTON, Entertainers:- 11 min. F. S. close in 1, 3 shows. On at 6:30. Two men and a woman, one of the men working eccentric. Good opener. Work includes dancing and contortion by the girl, and dancing and acrobatic work by the men. Also some singing which does not amount to much. The comedy is rather of the knock-about order. Close in 1 includes dancing feature by all three which was very rapid and got good hand. FOUR SUTCLIFFE SISTERS, Dancers:- 14 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:51- Four charming young dancers, appearing in various national dances in several changes of costume, including Scotch, Irish, German (wooden shoe) and sailor. Make a very charming appearance. Quite won the house with their sprightliness and evident pleasure in their work. Each one of their dances got a good hand. This is a decided novelty and could stand a much better place on the bill. Close good. KENNY & HOLLIS, Comedians:- 15 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:05. This was quite a surprise, being one of the best talking acts in 1 that we have had for a long time. Could stand a much better place on the bill. The wit is spontaneous and quite woke up the house. The laughter was continued throughout, and closed strong with two curtain calls. FOUR SCHADES, "Mistakes will Happen":-20 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:20, but too late for this act. There is only one bright spot in it, the singing and dancing of the little girl. Without it the act would be a frightful fall-down. It will have to be shoved up the bill. The sketch is badly constructed and badly played. SHARP BROTHERS, Buck and Wing dancers:- 13 min. in 1. 2 shows (should be 3) On at 7:45. Blackface, making a good presentation in white suits. Do a little singing which is only fair, and a good deal of dancing which is much better. Received some advance applause because they are known to be Philadelphia boys. The various dances received good applause and the close was strong for that kind of an act. It must be said, however, that this is no better than a three-a-day act, and there is absolutely no justification for their demanding a place in the two-a-day section. More than that, they caused a good deal of annoyance by demanding the cream spot on the bill and make themselves generally obnoxious by their kicks. They certainly entertain an opinion of the merits of their act,- which is by no means justified. Two curtain calls, largely due to the insistence of their friends. Underworked and overpaid. DIAMOND & SMITH, Illustrated Songs:-20 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:58. Well known on the Circuit and one of the most entertaining features in 1. The songs are new and pleasing. The moving pictures of the soldiers was particularly interesting. The color work is brilliant and artistic. Altogether, this is one of the best features of the kind that we have had. Closed strong. very clever, and contains a lot of new stuff. As parodists they are among the best in the business. Constant laughs throughout the act, and closed well. "THE VANDERBILT CUP":-Timely and thrilling. Worthy of being placed in the body of any bill. GENERAL REMARKS:- This was distinctly a LANGTRY house to-day. Seventy percent of the audience are women, and probably fifty percent of these are comparatively new to Vaudeville. for that reason there was not as much applause for the Vaudeville acts as would otherwise have been expected, but there was enough to prove the fact that the audience liked the show, which may be called a thoroughly well balanced bill. The weather is ideal, and as was said before, the house is packed to the doors. -F.E.J.-
