2.-Phila. MAREENA, NEVARRO & MAREENA. Equilibrists:- 12 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:18. Well known on the Circuit. Two working straight and one comedy bell-boy. The work of these gymnasts is excellent Each one of the equilibristic stunts got a strong hand. The comedy is particularly good. Thoroughly O.K. for this place on the vill. Close was big. OLLIVOTTI TROUBADOURS, Instrumentalists:- 17 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:30 but placed too late. Two men, one a violinist and the other with a guitar. The costumes are romantic and eccentric. The work on the violin is nothing short of phenomenal in dexterity, but lacks the sympathetic quality necessary to make it a genuine artistic hit. Each one of the selections got good applause and the finish fair. These people got an 8:30 spot on the bill through their booming press matter and billing which they can hardly be said to live up to. All right up to 8 o'clock for a house like ours,- no more. WYLIE'S DOGS, Circus:-11 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:47. This is certainly a very interesting trained-animal act. The stage is set to represent a circus-ring, with people seated in boxes and loges around it. The dogs are dressed to represent various characters. There is a boxing match between the two dogs and plenty of other skilful work, such as somersaults from a small table, trick jumping, etc. One of the dogs is remarkably well trained and is quite as expert as any of Joe Reichen's. Wylie appears in clown costume and adds a good deal to the interest of the act. The finish was very strong. No doubt an act like this is very valuable on a Vaudeville bill, as it pleases the children, and we have frequent inquiries at the Box Office, as to whether there is anything on the bill especially for the little ones. NAT HAINES, Monologuist:- 17 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:58. Well known on the Circuit. A good deal of his material was the same as delivered here previously, but there is much too that is new. Held the crowd very well considering that there are so many new people here to-day, and that it is distinctly a Langtry crowd. Went better with the evening audience. MORRIS CORNIN & TROUPE, Juggling:- 15 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:15. This is one of the most expert juggling acts we have ever had here. It is full of surprises, beautifully dressed and well set on the stage. They juggle Indian clubs, plates and other paraphernalia, and certainly are the goods in their line. The Indian Club work was equal to the Five Mowatts. There was a good deal of applause throughout the act, and the close was big. MATTHEWS & ASHLEY, Comedians:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:30. In some respect it is the same act they offered some months ago, but it is certainly very clever, and contains a lot of new stuff. As parodists they are among the best in the business. Constant laughs throughout the act, and closed well. KINETOGRAPH:- "THE VANDERBILT CUP":-Timely and thrilling. Worthy of being placed in the body of any bill. GENERAL REMARKS:- This was distinctly a LANGTRY house to-day. Seventy percent of the audience are women, and probably fifty percent of these are comparatively new to Vaudeville. For that reason there was not as much applause for the Vaudeville acts as would otherwise have been expected, but there was enough to prove the fact that the audience liked the show, which may be called a thoroughly well balanced bill. The weather is deal, and as was said before, the house is packed to the doors. -F.E.J.-
