152. NOVEMBER 5, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. HART & DENNETTE, Song and Dance:- 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:36. A local act of merit, which was required to fill up the necessary time, as we found the show ran short after the first performance. JUGGLING MATHIEU, Juggler:- 10 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:50. Well known on the Circuit. Performs a number of minor feats in juggling with good skill. Received good applause throughout. Closed well. Good act for an early spot on the bill. HILDA CLARKE, Violiniste:-14 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:00. Local violiniste. As an amateur she is certainly promising, playing with precision and much sweetness of tone. She lacks the professional air and presence which will come with experience. HUGHES & BROWN, Talking Act:- 14 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:14. Two men, one straight, and the other eccentric. Have some songs with a fair line of talk which received some few gallery laughs. Close was only fair. The act is too long and needs the introduction of new, bright, and more rapid-firing material. WOOD BROTHERS, Ring acrobats:-10 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:28. Two very powerful athletes in becoming white costumes. Perform stunts on a Standard from which are suspended four rings. Their feats are exhibitions of prodigious strength rather than skill. A good hand after each one of their stunts. The final act, both men at full swing, was loudly applauded. Good, clean, athletic act for any house. FLEMEN & MILLER, Comedians:- 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:38. Man and woman making good presentation, singing acceptably. Some bright talk, which won some scattered laughs. Close was fair. THREE PAJAMA PERRYS, Musical Skit:- 19 min. F.S. close in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:50. This has the making of a good act. It is quite original in its idea, but it needs a lot of work and the introduction of one or two more people who are more clever than these girls are.-They are discovered at the rise of the curtain, lying in bed. The room is a typical seminary girls' boudoir. Thereupon begins some pillow-fighting and banter with the introduction of some songs and dancing. The recitation at the close were rather amateurish. They managed to win fairly good applause, but mostly from the upper part of the house. The close was fair. The finish in 1 includes dancing in complete change of costume. Very effective and pretty, making finish the strongest part of the act. FRANCO PIPER, Banjo King:-16 min. in 2. 2 shows. (Close in 1.) On at 8:09. This man is certainly the goods. His work on the banjo, including both music and juggling, is nothing short of phenomenal. Every selection got a round of applause. The close in 1 was big, with an encore and four curtain calls. GILLETT'S DOGS, Animal-act:- 17 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:53. A very good animal-act and strong enough for a closer. The dogs are remarkably intelligent and carefully trained. There are about a dozen of them, of various sizes and breeds. Perform several stunts, doing a little play (comedy), and afterwards performing on bells, doing a high jump, and jumping off of a high platform. A good act for the children. section rather weak, but from eight o'clock on there is abundant show for any house. FEJ.
