156 NEW YORK CRITICISM, NOV. 12th, 1906. ALVIN & KENNEY---One comedy and one straight. These men gave a trial rehearsal here some time ago, and as I predicted they make good for a three show act. Their ring work is very good and while the Comedy is rather crude it makes a good opening act for the money. 12 minutes, full stage. JULIET WINSTON--- This young woman has a good Soprano Voice. she is good looking and dresses well. A good three show act. Closing Song went very well. 12 minutes in one. THE HEALYS---Man and woman in songs and piano playing. The man's piano playing went well, but the dialogue is very weak and the act only mediocre. 17 minutes, full stage. Close in one. THE FOUR MASONS---Two men and two women in a school scene. Their own scenery. This is a good three show act. All their members went fairly well and the comedy was good. Their close in one was very weak. 20 minutes, full stage. Close in one. CAVAN---Wire Contortionist. This man is quite clever. He works easily and gracefully and his difficult tricks were liberally applauded. The only genuine applause up to this point. Very good three show act. 12 minutes, full stage. HAMILTON HILL--- This man made a big hit with his songs. He has a fine voice and easy personality. A good popular act. 11 minutes in one. HUNGARIAN BOYS BAND--- This is really a remarkable band, and made a terrific hit. I don't know of any other band who could possibly have created a sensation as this one did here this afternoon. The applause was deafening, and this is the only foreign band I have ever heard that thoroughly understands and interprets American music. The precision and stage management of the whole act makes it one of the strongest attractions I have ever witnessed in Vaudeville. 22 minutes, full stage. Full stage, one, two, and finish full stage. QUIGLEY BROTHERS-- Two men in political sketch called "ELECTION DAY." These men did not go as well as I expected. It was a hard spot to fill, and they failed to get much laughter, however I will wait until to-night before making a change in places, as they may not have been at their best, but I am afraid the sketch is no good. 18 minutes, full stage. SPESSARDY'S BEARS--- This act did not go quite as well as usual, owing to two or three of the animals being in bad humor. However the finish was good and funny, and went fairly well with the audience. 13 minutes, full stage. MOTION PICTURES--- "Stealing the Tomatoes." Very funny. The Troubadour, bad will change. Mother-in-Law. This is a very funny film and the audience screamed. NOTE--- The start and finish of this show are very weak, but thanks to the strength of the "Middle" Acts and the Hungarian Band the audience seemed satisfied. Lindsay Morison.
