157. HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM Nov. 12th, 1906 E.F. ROGERS THE [GAGNOUX?]: Jugglers. Well known. Good opening act. Some little applause throughout. Alright for an early place. 15 min.-full stage closed in one- 3 shows THE PRYORS: Well known. Pleasing act for an early place. Received some applause for their dancing. 16 min. in one- 3 shows RADO & BERTMAN: In their comedy sketch:-"The New Girl." woman seems like excess baggage. Man secured some little applause for his contortion work. Just about got by in this spot. 17 min.-full stage- 3 shows HORACE WRIGHT: This man's impersonations are quite novel and has a good voice, altho this afternoon he was off on his high notes. Act is thoroughly alright and was appreciated in this place. 15 min. in one-3 O'BRIEN & BUCKLEY: Man and woman. Musical act. Act consists of talking and cornet playing. Contains many bright lines; secured quite a number of laughs, and is thoroughly alright for an early place. 20 min.-full stage-closed in one- 2 shows WILL ROGERS & HIS BRONCHO: Well known. Applauded throughout for his work. 14 min. full stage- 2 shows KELLY & VIOLETTE: Vocalists. Both have elegant voices. woman nicely costumed. Introduced several new songs. All of their selections were appreciated. 15 min. in one- 2 shows TOM EDWARDS: English Ventriloquist. This man is certainly a great artist. It was some few moments before the "pokey" Harlemites were able to get acquainted with his work. After they were "on" he brought forth great applause and screams of laughter. Was compelled to take bow after bow. 22 min.-full stage- 2 shows HAWTHORNE & BURT: Hebrew Comedians. This act, altho old, seems new here. They were laughed at throughout and gained considerable applause for their dancing. 13 min. in one- 2 shows over the heads of the audience. Some of them were tiring and left the theatre before the act was half finished, altho those who did see it through, gave him some very good applause and enabled him to take a bow on the finish of the act. 33 min.-open in two-full stage and close in two GEORGE EVANS: This man went fully as strong as last week. He introduced some new material, still carrying some of the old. The audience appreciated his work throughout and with the help of the house in the chorus, enabled him to get big applause on the finish. 20 min. GILLETT'S DOGS: This is a mighty good act, but to-day they opened rather tame in the pantomimic work, but redeemed themselves in the musical playing and leaping. 18 min. -full stage KINETOGRAPH: "Bobby & his Family" Good "Sheeps Ranch-Hawaiian Islands" Good "Dr. Duppy's Sanitarium." Good
