179. (Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of Nov. 26, 1906. Walter Daniels. 3 shows. On at 1 o'clock, 14 min, in 1. Well-known on the circuit. I consider his work rather uneven, some of the impersonations being very good, while others are almost the reverse. He will not get out of the 3-a-day section in the big houses, but can hold down a number two spot acceptably in most of the smaller towns. Frederick & "Don". 3 shows. On at 1.14, 15 min, full stage. A remarkably clever and well-trained pony, worked in excellent style by a young fellow with a very good stage presence. I consider this a very valuable act. Will make good in any bill. it is about the only animal act that I know of that can be worked in one if necessary. A great act for children. Kittie Stevens. 3 shows. On at 1.29, 11 min, in 1, although she prefers full stage. Just an ordinary act. It got by in this spot and that is all. Will La Belle. 3 shows. On at 1.40, 10 min, full stage, 4 min close in 1, 14 in all. His comedy juggling act would make good in a better place in the bill. Would stand and early spot in the 3-a-day houses, say number one or two. Fitzgerald & Trainor. On at 1.54, 12 min, full stage, 4 min close in 1, 16 in all. An act that has the makings of a very good turn. The comedian of the pair is a wonderful dancer and a good trick piano-player. The other member of the team is a good dancer, but is decidedly amateurish. However, the act made a hit at this time on the bill. Hamilton Hill. On at 2.10, 11 min, in 1. A good baritone voice and a pleasing personality, but I think there are many better singers who could be booked for less money than he gets. Royal Musical 5. On at 2.21, 14 min, full stage, 4 min close in 1, 18 min in all. The youth of these performers is what saves the act, as they are not by any means great musicians. Still it is a pretty act and passed in this place on the bill. Kremka Brothers. On at 2.39, 10 min, full stage. A corking good acrobatic act. Many of their feats are novel, while everything they do is done with a snap that adds much to the effect of the act. I consider it too good an act with which to close a show. Burke & Dempsey. On at 2.49, 16 min, in 1. These boys did very well. Their parodies are remarkably bright and up-to-date. It is seldom we get an act of this kind that can take two or three bows on their finish. Spessardy's Bears. On at 3.05, 13 min, full stage. A good act of its kind, fitting in particularly well in this holiday bill. Through a Telescope", a picture that combines some good scenic effects and also quite a dash of comedy. No. 3, "The Poor Tutor" a fair film with some droll incidents. Cuts: Will La Belle. Instructed to dispense with corsets. Sherman, De Forest & Co. Instructed to eliminate the "Yuba Dam" joke. Burke & Dempsey The bathing suit story. Comment. A holiday week and it is a holiday show. The program was put together with the express idea of pleasing the children, who will make up a very large percentage of our audiences in the last three days of the week. It is not what would be termed a high-class bill, but I think it provides a great amount of sheer amusement.
