181 Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of November 26, 1906. (Charles Lovenberg, Mgr.) The bill didn't play as well as I expected it would. First part of the show contains too many "dumb" acts and the whole thing lacks hilarious comedy, until we get pretty well down into the show. McDade & Welcome. Little cheap singing and dancing act, two men. Put in here this week to hold expenses down. Wouldn't care to recommend them for the circuit. Emerson & Baldwin. Comedy juggling act which I consider a good 3-a-day act, but not good enough for two shows in this house, as per their contract. 9 min. full stage, 2 shows. Three Madcaps. This is always a good reliable little act, safe in any spot on the bill up to 8.15. 10 min. in 2, 3 shows. McCrea & Poole. Well-known shooting act which went as well to-day as usual. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Norah Kelley. Will go in this place to-night, haven't seen her as yet, but will report on it later. Mlle. Nadje, A very handsome young woman, equilibrist and contortionist who works very rapidly with much grace. Very good act indeed. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Tom Moore. Coon shouter who gave us the same songs he did last year with one exception. Went very well with the audience. 10 min. in 1, 3 shows. Seymour & Hill. First time here for this very excellent comedy acrobatic act; which made quite a hit. 14 min. full stage, 2 shows. Taylor Holmes. Somehow another Mr. Holmes doesn't seem to reach as strongly in Providence as he does in other places. I think he gets about $50.00 too much money. 16 min. in one, 2 shows. Murray & Lane. Vocal sketch. It is too bad they don't confine themselves more to the operatic selections. First part of their act only gets by fairly, possibly because they are singing a lot of old "chestnuts" asp. They scored strongly at their finish however with a duet with "Il Trovatore" which got them several curtain calls. 20 min. full stage, 2 shows. Tom Edwards. English ventriloquist. I am sorry to say that Mr. Edwards did not make the tremendous hit here that he did in Boston. The first part of his act went only fairly well. There seems to be difficulty in understanding about one-half that he says. This part of his act in no way compares with the offering of Reynard and I think might put Vernon in the class, with the exception of the singing of a song and smoking a cigarette, which is a very clever piece of work. The first half of the act however was a "scream" with the "Baby" business and sent him off quite strongly, but there was no insistent demand for any more after he had done 18 min. as against 25 min. done last week in Boston. Full stage, 2 shows. Howard & Howard. Jewish messenger boy and good "straight" man. Very good act for the money. Held down this place satisfactorily. 17 min. in 1, 2 shows. FURTHER COMMENT ON TOM EDWARDS. He went better last night than he did in the afternoon and improved his act by smoking a cigar during the first part of his act, all through, which he didn't do at the afternoon performance. His "Patter" however with the "Dummy" is not funny and that part of the act drags somewhat, but when he gets to the "baby" work he certainly made a tremendous hit. 25 min. on the night show, but I believe that act is better by being a little bit shorter and omitting some of the jokes in the early part of his act. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager.
