187 DECEMBER 3, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E.B BARNS. ALEXIS M.SCHALL,"The Happy Pair":- 13 min. in 2. 3 shows. On at 6:42. Pleasing opener, including some good dancing, some fair singing, and some contortion work that is above the average. This is the third time these people have been here in a little more than a year, with practically the same act, which accounts for their not being received quite so strong as they deserve. JACK LYLE, Monologue:- 11 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:55. Only a fair line tf talk and likewise songs. Did not get hold of his audience very quickly nor hold them strong. Just about dozed by, with only fair applause at finish. JOSEPHINE NEWMAN & CO., Comedy sketch:- 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:30. This sketch has no coherence and is only an excuse for Miss Newman to appear in two or three changes of costume,-an imitation of Toby Claude, a doll and a Fauntleroy. The "& Co." of the sketch is quite impossible, having neither personality, voice nor dramatic ability. She received a fair hand for one of her songs sung very indifferently, but more through sympathy than anything else. Quite froze them off at the finish. HOLDSWORTHS, Musical & Sing:-14 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:06. Man and woman making good presentation. Songs went quite well and the banjo duets likewise. Held down the place acceptably. SAONA,IMpersonator:-11 min. in 2. 3 shows. On at 7:20. Well known on the Circuit, and one of the best three-a-day acts that we have. Each one of his living portraits got a good hand, especially that of Mc.Kinley and Gen. Lee. Received two curtain calls. VON KLINE &GIBSON,Sing. & Dance:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:32. Man and woman, making a very pleasing presentation, but not having the goods to deliver, got a very lukewarm reception. The singing is very indifferent, the fun deficient, and there is little to redeem the act or to place it in the two-a-day section. After the strong applause of Saona, this was quite a fall-down. TEN BROOKE,LAMBERT & CO. "Professor Sonmaltz' Academy":- 23 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 7:47. This is a very amusing, and from a musical standpoint, acceptable act. The work of the "professor" both on the violin and the piano, is right up to the standard, and the comedy is good. There were constant laughs, and the close was strong. ELECTRIC CRICKETS,:- 18 min. F.S. 8 shows. On at 8:10. This is a ripping Vaudeville feature, start to finish. Three changes of costume,-crickets, Chinese, and Military. Eight girls, besides the two principals, each one pretty and understanding her business thoroughly. The set is fetching in every detail, with the Wistaria Grove and battle-ship scene. There is abundance of good music, well sung. Miss Seymour is a very beautiful girl, with a very pleasing voice. Was liberally applauded throughout and close was strong
