189. HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM Dec. 3rd, 1906 --oo-- ADAIR & DAHN: Novelty Tight Wire Artists. Well known. Elegant opening a ct. Applauded throughout, especially that of the cake-walking, 10 min. -full stage. AL LAWRENCE: Mimic. This man made quite an impression, all of his material going strong. Secured a big lot of laughs. 2 0 min. in one ORTH & FERN: In their musical comedy:-"Sign that Book." This act is well known. Held its own here this afternoon. Orth's piano-playing pleased, while Fern scored big on his parodies. 16 min. full stage closed in one. DAN BURKE & HIS SCHOOL GIRLS: Six young ladies in songs and dances. Girls make several changes of costumes. Act is only a pleasing dancing number. It is rather English in its general tone. While it pleased in a small way, it failed to created a great sensation. Man is about $150 overpaid and is far from being a headline feature. 19 min.-full stage FANNY RICE: This woman is presenting the old act with a few new subjects. The impersonation of Williams Jennings Bryan with the assistance of the orchestra and the stage hands is quite a laugh. The act went good in spots. Is entirely too long. Will have her eliminate some of the characters and cut it down to about 15 minutes. 20 min. in two BAILEY & AUSTIN: "The Two American Beauties." Well known. Went good in spots. The audience did not enthuse any and seemed to be perfectly satisfied when they left the stage. At the night performance, they went much better. 11 min. -full stage BESNAH & MILLER: Talking, Singing and Dancing Comedy. This act seemed to work hard and everybody knows that it is alright to fill in top of the bill, but this afternoon the audience didn't seem to show any appreciation for their work and allowed them to escape with very little recognition, 16 min, in one SIMON, GARDNER & CO: In:-"The New Coachman." Well known. This is the first act on the bill where the audience sat up and took notice and seemed to laugh at everything that Simon attempted. They, therefore, scored big. 37 min.-full stage FRANK BUSH This man gave his regular routine of stories. All were greatly appreciated and he was one of the laughing hits of the show. 19 min.
