194. Cleveland Show Week Dec. 10, 1906. (H. A. Daniels) ZARA & STETSON-- Man and woman. Baton Manipulators. Good opening act. Played here in the Olio of a burlesque show at the Empire last season. F. S. 8 minutes. MAYBELLE ADAMS-- "Waif Violinist." Played three selections. The first did not go very well. The second selection received some applause, and at the close of the third selection the applause was terrific. In fact the girl madea small sized hit. Many thanks to J. Paige Smith, Esquire. Drop in one. 14 minutes. MARCO TWINS-- Grotesque comedy. Scream from start to finish. F. S. 9 minutes. FOUR FORDS-- To overcome the wait between the Marco wins and this act we changed from a garden in four to a palace F. S .in full view of the audience and this offering by the stage crew made quite a hit and received hearty applause. The act of the Four Fords is too well known for comment. Just a hit. More thanks to J.P.S. 13 minutes F. S. NORA BAYES-- This girl went well, there is no getting around that fact. The question is did she do as well as she should for the money she is getting. An individual act should get a little bit more than hearty applause when they pull down the amount of money she is for twelve minutes work. Any one of the Four Fords is just as clever in their particular line of work and any of them could hold the stage with a single dancing act and go just as well as did Miss Bayes. If we paid the Four Fords in proportion to the money we are paying her the act would get very little booking. The song Cin-cin-nati made Miss Bayes. When that song became a chestnut and she had to drop it the value of her act was reduced $100. We will grant that three music publishers' songs may be worth $100. I would consider that if she was paid for her personality and songs at this ratio she would be getting all that was coming to her. Drop in one. 13 minutes. HARRY TATE'S COMPANY IN "MOTORING." This troupe arrived in Cleveland at 2 P.M. Played Sunday night in Chiago and road all night and most of the forenoon and put absolutely no life or ginger into their work. The act went along in a very ordinary manner and closed to very little applause. F. S. 13 min. GEORGE W. DAY-- Black face monologue. Went very well in this spot. Droopin one 14 min. THE GREAT KAUFMAN TROUPE-- Five girls and three boys. BIcycle act. Well known on the circuit. F. S. 15 minutes. KINETOGRAPH-- The Witch's Cave-- Very good Scenes in Hawaaian Islands-- Very good My Mother-in-law Good comedy picture.
