196. HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM H.F. ROGERS ------- December 10th, 1906 4 NIGHTONS: With the circus acts on the program, it is impossible to use this set except at the opening of the show. They were strongly applauded both for the feats of strength and for the various poses. 10 min.-full stge. STANLEY & LEONARD: Well known. Little advance applause. Presume the party made a mistake. The work of both was greatly appreciated. The comedy end secured many laughs. Compelled to take several bows. 1 4 min. in one CAPTAIN GEO. AUGER & CO: Presenting:-"Jack, the Giant Killer." The company consists of Captain Auger, who is a giant measuring 8 feet 4 inches with two liliputians and two women. The Captain has a very bad delivery with an impediment in his speech. The stronghold is the boy comedian, who secures all the laughs and has an elegant voice. The act contains various specalties with Russian dances, cake-walk and singing by the midget comedian. The act is novel, rather freaky and far from being a headline attraction. It pleases the children and I presume it will pass in all the houses, if placed properly. 22 min. full stage CARON & HERBERT: Well known. They opened in one, which enabled us to dispose of a wait, although it hurts them to some extent. When they secure the full stage, however, the laughs come their way. As usual, their finish in one was very funny and they closed to big applause. 1 5 min. WAYBURN'S DANCING DAISIES: An excellent spectacular dancing number. Consisting of singing, dancing, light effects, etc. Seven young ladies constitute the company. Girls make several changes of costumes and they are pretty fair dancers. I think the act is as good as a ny sight act of this description that we ever had. 15 min.-full stage SEARL & VIOLET ALLEN CO: Presenting:-"The Traveling Man." Company consists of Searl and Violet Allen with the assistance of three en. First scene,-drop in one, represents that of a railroad station with a man talking through a megaphone giving the time of the trains leaving, etc. Second scene, drop in one, represents that of the interior of a Pullman car with a prop door, frame chairs at windows, etc. Searl and Violet Allen are the passengers and with the aid of the brakeman, conductor and newsboy, they managed to get continuous laughs with rapid fire talking and witty sayings, etc. The material is all new and funny. Personally, I think some parts of the act is a scream. The only fault being a poor finish like all of this man's work. However, it is alright for the money. 20 min. in one WHITE & STUART: Presenting:-"Paris," Secured many laughs and went fully as strong as any act on the hill. 32 min.-full stage
