197. HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM E.F. ROGERS Dec. 17th, 1906 --oo0oo-- C O M M E N T: The show is excellent from start to finish. One of the best we had this season. The Monday matinee was the largest since the week of Mrs. Langtry,Four Mortons, of course, being the drawing-card, The audience were more enthusiastic. THE BALZERS: European Acrobats. Two men. Both working straight. Excellent acrobatic act. Some of their work is very novel. Big applause throughout. 7 min.-full stage DOHERTY SISTERS: Singing Comediennes. Greatly improved. Introduced some new impersonations, all of which scored immensely. A big hit. 15 min. in one BARTHOLDI'S BIRDS: Well known. Great act for the women and children. Big applause throughout, especially that of the bicycle riding over the auditorium. 11 min.-full stage WM. A. INMAN & CO: Two men, presenting, REcognition." This act is on the style of Howard & North. They use their own scenery, two drops in one, representing the outside of an athletic club. The act is bright, altho rather rough and foreign to the feminine audience. Scored big at the night performance. 18 min. BARROWS-LANCASTER CO: Offering:-"Thanksgiving Day." Well known. The company is thoroughly alright. Good applause. Received a great many laughs. Finished to big applause. 27 min.-full stage BLOCKSOM & BURNS: While this act got the laughs, I believe they are going backwards. The audience did not seem to enthuse as much as in the other houses. However, they held their own. 12 min.-full stage FOUR MORTONS: (Sam, Clara, Kitty and Paul) We billed this act as the "Royal Family of Entertainers" and they fully deserved it,-for they are the best entertainers on the stage to-day. The advance applause was tremendous with big individual applause. Paul has greatly improved and reminds one of Geo. M. Cohan, while Clara is as dainty as ever. Act is on the style of the one presented when last in vaudeville, but greatly improved. The house "howled" and applauded at everything they did and they were compelled to boy repeatedly. After they left the stage, the audience seemed in an uproar. It was some few minutes before the house became quiet again and they recognized Katie Barry trying to sing. The act is a big, big hit. 29 min. opened in one about 2 min-closed full stage KATIE BARRY: Some few moments before this woman could get the audience. They appreciated her work, however. Called her back several times to encore. At the night performance, she received a big lot of advance (2) a pplause and went much stronger than at the evening. 13 min. DUFFIN-REDGAY TROUP: One of the greatest casting acts we ever had. Applauded throughout. 10 min. full stage KINETOGRAPH: "Right Before Chris tmas" Very appropriate. Excellent picture
