212. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of December 31, 1906. (Chas. Bovenberg, Mgr.) The bill this week is exceptionally good; much better than I expected. Strange to say the "feature" acts were not the ones that made the "hits", by any means. In some cases there are absolute "finds" in the bill and were doubly pleasing because one expected so little from them. The house was crowded with practically a Holiday audience and that may have had something to do with the way the acts went. Reilley & Morgan. Little comedy sketch, man and woman; that is all right for an unimportant spot in the 3-a-day section. 18 min. open in 3, with a long close in 1, 3 shows. Mr. & Mrs. Cal Stewart. In their well-known act "Uncle Josh on the Bowery". This too, is all right in the 3-a-day section and where it has not been seen, I consider it "good" for the 2-a-day shows in the smaller cities. 18 min. in 1, 3 shows. John & Bertha Rich. This young couple got by very nicely in a singing and dancing specialty with a few jokes added. 2 min. in 1, 3 shows. DeFaye Sisters. Two attractive looking girls who gave mandolin and banjo selections; I expected performance on the violin also which did not materialize - will investigate. 9 min. in 2, can work in 1, 3 shows. Kenny & Hollis. This was the bit surprise of the show. From the audience standpoint (and I agree with them) this is one of the best talking acts we have had in many a day. They had the people convulsed with laughter all thro their act, and finished to tremendous applause. Good enough for the 2-a-day section in ANY House. They should be given next season's time, before they are grabbed up by somebody else, for more money. 18 min. in 1, 3 shows. Alieni's Monkey. Same act that he has given before which is always "good". 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Daisy Dumont. Vocalist, comedienne. This lady offered an apology to me before she went on as to the condition of her voice, claiming to be suffering from "bronchitis". However, she"got by" very nicely and did better than I expected she would, judging from reports. She has a very charming personality, good enunciation, and fair voice, and some good songs. 10 min. in 1, 2 shows. Fitzgibbon, McCoy Trio. As usual, one of the big hits of the show. 20 min. open full stage, close in 1, 2 shows. Williams & Tucker. From the standpoint of "headliner" I think these people have gone by. I don't mean to say that they do a "bad" act, in fact, I think Eva Williams is exceedingly clever, but their work is simply repetition of what they have done before so many times, that the audience seem to be tired of them. They got very few laughs and very scanty applause. 25 min .full stage, 2 shows. Lee Tung Foo. Chinese vocalist and comedian. Mr. Foo made a decided hit and I am glad that we billed him as high up in the advertising as we did. He is making "good" for all that we have said. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows.
