218 HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM E.F. ROGERS December 31st, 1906 ADAMS & MACK: Burlesque Magic. Received some little applause. Fairly good opener. 13 min. in one SMIRL & KESSNER: Acrobatic comedy. Man's work received quite a big lot of applause. Qoman [Woman] is rather awkward. Encore in one with the dog pleased immensely. This act started the show going in good show. 17 min.-full stage-closed in one VOLTA: Electrical Marvel. Quite a number of the audience responded to this man's invitation to act as a committee, which helped the act greatly and made it look more legitimate. He was watched with great interest. Each and every one of his stunts were strongly applauded. Presume the act is going to create some talk and be a money-maker. 23 min. BESSIE WYNN: Singing Comedienne. Pleasing personality. Nicely costumed. Quite a clever little actress. Became very popular before she was half finished. The gallery boys whistled with her. The result was that she became a favorite and could hardly break away. An excellent act, but greatly overpaid. 18 min. in one LEWIS McCORD & CO: In:-"Her Last Rehearsal." Took the audience quite a while this afternoon what this was all about presume it being a new clientile [clientele]. After they got going, the laughs were plentiful, and I think went as strong as in any other houses. 27 min.-full stage GRANT & HOAG: In:-"A Little Bit of Everything." This act was easily the laughing hit of the show up to this time. The material is excellent. Scored big from start to finish. 18 min. in one POLLY PICKLE'S PETS IN PETLAND: This act is sort of a novelty,-that is from the standpoint of the various characters impersonated. Scenery is pretty and the music is excellent. A great act for the children. 24 min.-full stage. AVERY & HART: The only real coon tem [team] in vaudeville. Big advance applause. Every move a laugh. A big hit. 24 min. in one. KAUFFMAN TROUPE: Excellent closing act. Big applause throughout. 17 min. KINETOGRAPH: "Who's Who" Good comedy. Quite novel COMMENT: The show is very good. Rather disappointed in Polly Pickle's Pets Greatly overpaid.
