228 228 (handwritten) HARLEM OPERA HOUSE CRITICISM E.F.ROGERS January 7th, 1907 WYLIE'S DOGS: Rather pretentious. Dogs worked badly this afternoon. Presume they will improve at night. Act pleased, however, and received quite good applause on the finish. 12 min.-full stage QUINLAN & MACK: In:-"The Traveling Dentist." This act seemed to please immensely. The material is quite old, but I presume new to the Harlemites, therefore, everything went with a laugh. 20 min.-two MAY BOLEY & POLLY GIRLS: Pleasing girl act. Nothing sensational. Nicely costumed with fair voices. "Country Girls" received some few laughs. Just about got by at the afternoon performance. Went much better at night. 1 8 min.-full stage closed in one MANSFIELD & WILBUR: In an attempt of "'61 Prospect Street." An excellent vehicle, but badly handled. The audience did not take them seriously. They received some few laughs with little applause on the finish. 25 min.-full stage SYDNEY DEANE & COMPANY: Presenting:-"Christmas on Blackwell's Island." Really the opening of the show. Big applause. Good material. Excellent singing. Everything went with a roar. The laughing and applause hit of the show. 24 min. full stage-closed in one MORRIS CRONIN TROUPE: Jugglers. Very novel. Plenty of laughs. Greatly appreciated Big applause on the finish. 12 min. full stage ...gentle Harlemites. Presume he will hold his own to-night. 12 min FUTURITY WINNER: To those familiar with the racing game, this act appealed. Company is thoroughly alright. Carried the a ttention throughout, the racing scene getting tremendous applause. 20 min KINETOGRAPH: "Scenes at Niagara Falls" Very interesting "Dear Boys' Home for a Holiday" Good comedy.
