233. JAN. 14, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E.BARNS. CHARLES FREDERICK,Magician:-13 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:25. Usual magician's stunts which received mild hand, but was neither novel or brilliant. Applause only fair. [MEEH?] INTERNATIONAL TRIO,Acrobatic:- 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:38. This is essentially a strong-man act. The heavy-weight comes on bearing the other two men on his shoulders. The three men make fine presentation in Roman athletic costumes. Their various stunts received good applause. The novelty of the feature consists of an act in a steel skeleton supporting four rings, the skeleton is supported on the shoulders of the heavy-weight, while the two other performers give feats on the rings. This act would make a good opener for any house, or could go lower on the bill with credit. Would be relieved by a little comedy of which is shy. Closed well, with one curtain call. STEVENSON & NUGENT, Song and Dance:- 12 min. in 1, 3 shows. On at 7:02. Two men, one working straight and the other eccentric, being very tall and lanky with a strong sense of the ludicrous. The line of talk is not particularly brilliant, but the eccentric dancing, however, is so good as to keep the crowd in good humor, and merit a curtain call. Closed well. DeCHAUNT and DOGS,Acrobatic:-10 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:02. Man working in ordinary costume. Works with table approached by steps on either side. Carries four small dogs all of which are well trained and do many clever things, but show intense fear of the whip, which spoils the interest. The man's athletic stunts received good hand. Held the spot, but left no distinct impression. HOWARD & RUTHERFORD,Comedians:- 18 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:12. This is a good three-a-day act. Two men, one working German eccentric and the other college-boy.All the talk is swift and rapid, and for the most part novel. Their parodies are the best part of the act and won them three recalls. On the whole, this act can truthfully be said to make a hit in three-a-day class. DORSCH & RUSSELL<"Musical Railroaders":- 18 min. F.S. cl. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:30. This is a very novel act. The scene is a country railroad station and switch yard. One man represents the station master and the other a tramp who rides in on a hand-car..They play various musical instruments, the piccolo, flute, 'cello, cornet, electric bells, etc., all of which they do acceptably and win quite a strong hand. At the close they received an encore. WERDEN & GLADDISH,Illustrated Ballads:- 14 min, in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:48. Well known on the Circuit. Have some new songs that are very fetching and are well sung. The pictures are really of a very high order of merit and together they make a fine combination in a Vaudeville house. As an act in 1 this is certainly a Vaudeville feature. It could hold any spot where a long act in 1 requires it to set a heavy scene as we have to-day. Closed strong, with a curtain call.
