235 NEW YORK CRITICISM---JAN. 14th, 1907. MACEO & FOX---Colored man and woman. Good opening, three show act. Man is a good dancer, and got quite a little applause. well dressed act, and got a good call. 12 minutes in one. MC NAMEE--Clay modeler. His work is fair, and his patter is fairly good. An act that just gets by the three show section. 11 minutes in two. CHEFALO & CO.---Italian Magician assisted by a good looking woman. Someone has evidently told this man his English was good, (?) for he keeps talking all through his act with a most unintelligible dialect. His work, outside of is "ring" work is very ordinary, and the woman's attempt is bad. It is time for me to call a halt on such acts as these. 15 minutes, 2 1/2. NELLIE REVELLE---Woman monologue. A middle aged western woman with an imitation of May Irwin that is very bad. She finishes with a recitation about Agents and Vaudeville people asking for kind applause that was simply the "limit." Three shows, 11 minutes in one. MR. & MRS. CAL STEWART---In "Uncle Josh on the Bowery." A Rube act in 2 1/2 with their own drop. The first part is a monologue by Stewart that got a few laughs. The woman has a most repulsive Bowery make-up without any pretense at Comedy. I hear they object to playing three shows. What they would do in the two show section, goodness only knows for they were an awful frost with a full house here at 2-30 this afternoon. 18 minutes, three shows. OLLIVOTTI TROUBADOURS---Here is truly a great act. Two men. Violin and Guitar. They not only play well, but they have a "showman" like act. The Violin player is a wonder, and I don't think I have ever heard the Guitar played any better than by this team. The Harmony was perfect, and the act created a sensation. Terrific applause, and two forced encores. I cannot recommend this act enough. It will make good on any bill at any time. 16 minutes in one. GEORGE H. WOOD---Blackface Monologue comedian. Big favorite, but has only his old stuff. However, he held up this place very well considering that up to this act, I have not had a single turn in full Stage. He suffered considerably by comparison with over four weeks of Geo. Evans. 18 minutes in one. MAX WESSELEY AND HIS TROUPE OF JUGGLERS---Second week. They went much better in this spot than they did closing the show last week, but as I said their close is the only thing that makes the act. 13 minutes, full stage.
