16. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of February 18, 1907. (Charles Lovenberg, Mgr.) The show as a whole plays first rate, altho the 3-a-day section - in spots - is pretty bad. Waldron Brothers. One "straight"; one "Dutch." A very bad act. 18 min. in 1, 3 shows. Redding Sisters. Two girls who make a lot of noise and do a lot of heavy foot dancing; but haven't a wonderful amount of ability. The best thing about the act is its snap and ginger; all right for an early 3-a-day spot. 11 min. in 1, 3 shows. Ah Ling Soo. Chinese magician. Because of the fact that he is a Chinaman, the act is a little bit of a novelty, but he does no tricks that mystify the audience at all excepting where he is swung by his queue. I think at $75.00 the act is overpaid; it really should open the show in a continuous house. 12 min. open in 2, close in 1, 3 shows. The De Muths. Formerly whirlwind dancers, who now have their act incoporated in a sketch. In spots, the sketch has a little merit, but it drags because the people are not actors. However, it gives a little bit of length to the act and helps along for that reason. They do their usual whirlwind dancing, and at the finish the man does some excellent contortion work in one. The act is all right for the continuous houses; could open the show in the 2-a-day houses. 18 min. open in 3, close in 1, 3 shows. McNamee. Clay modeler. Mr. McNamee does the usual work of acts of this kind, and gets away with it first rate. Good act to play occasionally. 10 min. in 2. 3 shows. Golden Gate Quintette. I don't believe I like this act as well as I used to. Like most colored entertainers, after they get a little bit of standing, they want to do the "neat" work more suited to white people and in that way, lose the darkey personality. At the points where they did the comedy work it was exceedingly well accepted. "Straight" work let down a little bit. Finished to good applause, however, and can do no harm in any bill, if not depended upon too much. 18 min. open in 2, close in 1, 2 shows. Gartelle Brothers. Comedy skaters. These men do some funny falls, and get as much laughter as any knock-about act that we have had. They finished with some dancing which - while pretty good - lets the act down a little bit at the close. An excellent act for the money and they make good thoroughly up to 8.30 in this house. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Burke & Dempsey. The act these men are giving now is one hundred percent better than that which they gave me last season. They have some excellent material which is well delivered, and it can be classed among the best talking acts in the business. 17 min. in 1, 2shows. Metropolitan Opera Trio. This singing act is not as good as the others of the same kind which we have had before. However, as it doesn't get as much salary, one cannot find as much fault. The Prima Donna's voice shows wear, decidedly, but the act is all right to play about 8 or 8.15. They sing selections from "Ill Trovatore" and "Faust"; open to full stage, closing in 2, 12 min. & 2 shows. such fashion as to make it go very strongly. They were a decided hit, in a very hard spot. 20 min. in 1, 2 shows. Onlaw Trio. Two men who suspend by their teeth on the wire, a woman while she does various tricks. Well-known act, decided novelty, and always goes well; prettily staged, also. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Pictures. O. K.
