REPORT ON PROVINCETOWN SHOW, WEEK OF DECEMBER 21st, 1908 The bill is hardly up to what we have been having and far behind that of last week, being rather lame in the early three-a-day sections and in one important act (William Macart) in the big one of the show fell down lamentably. Gillette & Hallahan Man and woman, country boy and girl, rural comedy talking, singing and dancing. All right in a small way. 17 Min. in One, 3 shows. Lamonte's Circus Animal Act. They didn't do very well, but allowance must be made for a series of hitches not entirely their fault. Would not, however, want to recommend the act for much more than an opener in the small cities and [illegible] a three-aday act in the continuous houses. 15 Min. F. S. 3 shows. Will Davis Songs and stories. Not very good. 12 Min. in One, 3 shows. The Hurleys This is a splendid little act for the money which small towns ought to grab for an opener. A man and woman in a hand balancing act, the woman doing the heavy work. They do some excellent feats but the act suffers in the manner of presentation. 9 Min. in Two, could work in One. 3 shows. Carbesy Brothers Well-known dancing act which scored strongly. 3 Min. F. S. 3 shows. Holden's Manikins This act pleases our patrons as well as any act of the kind in the business. Their detail is wonderfully carried out, especially in the dancing. The Salome dance was a big hit, worth talking about in the advance advertising. 22 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Almost every feature of the act is new. William Macart Mr. Macart may do in some houses, but not in Providence. He has an excellent memory and at some time has seen Elmer Tenley. In the bottom slot in One he was an utter failure and I was obliged to move him to this spot. Worth about $100 to this house. His name has no value here whatever. 18 Min. in One, 2 shows. Birdland Mr. Lasky is entitled to credit for the manner in which he has staged this act. The music is good and at least one of the principals (Miss Canary) has a beautiful soprano voice. The rest of the company are mediocre and the comedian is bad. Besides this, there is something needed in the act - a re-writing of the libretto, in fact, I should say it needs an entirely new book. However, it pleased because of its novelty and pretty music but I should advise Mr. Lasky to make the changes mentioned if he expects to play return dates with the act in any cities. 23 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Oscar Lerraine Protean violinist. An excellent act and one of the hits of the bill. 18 Min. in One. 2 shows. Burt & Stanford In "The Order of the Bath," one of the daintiest sketches we ever had in the house and at the same time fill of good comedy. It is also splendidly played and is the real headliner of this bill. 23 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Barry & Holford well-known singing and talking act that in the earlier spot made quite a hit. Whether they are strong enough for this spot remains to be seen. 15 Min. in One, 2 shows. Bellong Bros. Very good
