KEITH'S HIPPODROME. Cleveland, Ohio. Dec 27th 1909 Ned Hastings. MAREENA, NEVARRO & MAREENA. 3 men. 4 palace. Time 9. comedy head and hand balancers. Very skillful straight work and comedy element first class. High grade act throughout. FOUR ENGLISH ROSEBUDS. 4 girls. Time 9. A fair dancing act. CHARLES F SEMON. Opens C.D.F. Closes in 1. Time 20. Much of his good old material and some brand new. A big hit. GEORGE FELIX and LYDIA BARRY. Assisted by Clara and Emily Barry. Presenting "The Boy Next Door." Time 24. Open C.D.F., Close in 1. Lydia Barry is almost useless. The two girls are dainty dancers but poor singers. Felix at times is clever, at at times very ordinary. There are moments when the act drags. LADY BETTY See last week's criticism. "THE" QUARTETTE. 4 men. Time 14. Sang a variety of solos and quartette numbers. Scored well with plenty of applause. SWAT MILLIGAN. A base ball sketch. 3 men, 1 woman. Time 19. F.S. with base ball fence (special) set in 2. The comedy is based on a messenger boy and a "tough" girl peeking through a knothole watching a baseball game. An Englishman comes along and much of the fun is furnished by his nonability to understand base ball slang. There are many good original lines, yet there is still a decided air of amateurist work especially on the part of the messenger boy. The period before the Englishman appears is not well done. There are several glaring absurdities. For instance in a game announced between "The Cubs and The Giants", local players went to bat and finally Swat Milligan did some heavy work with the stick. The idea looks like a base ball adaptation of George Ade's off stage football game in "The College Widow." There are several New York localisms, which, in my opinion, should be eliminated when the sketch is not playing near New York. McKAY and CANTWELL Assisted by Suzanne Johnstone. Time 15. In 2 special back drop. An original singing and talking sketch livened up with some good dancing. Went fairly well throughout. CARLISLE'S DOGS and PONY. F.S. Miniature town set. The work of the dogs is modeled after Gilette and it is a poor imitation. "Tom", an intelligent pony is the chief attraction. The whole act is rather slow. HIPPOGRAPH.
