C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JAN. 3, 1910. BENNETT TRIO. 15 min. F.S., close in one. Two men work straight, one clown comedy. All three good acrobats and their ground-tumbling work and fun got good applause. Work with tables and chairs and the clown makes some funny falls which get the children. The acrobatic and comedy work in one is particularly good and got a strong hand. GRACIE EMMETT & CO. "Mrs. Murphy's Second Husband." 21 min. F.S. Second presentation of this sketch here. Made a good impression with a packed holiday crowd. Laughter and applause all the way through and closed well. T. NELSON DOWNS. 17 min. in one. This man has a very engaging personality and his work is certainly very expert. The manner in which he makes coins appear and disappear amazes everybody and his line of talk is full of humor. A mighty good act, and far out of the line of general magic work. Good applause and a strong close with his card tricks. CHIP & MARBLE. 24 min. F.S. This sketch is better than ever; in fact, it is a hit all the way through. The lines are bright and the business is now perfected. Held the interest of the audience and won a big finishing hand. An unique and high-class sketch. LADDIE CLIFF. 20 min. in one. Big advance hand. Led with three new songs, all of which went very well, added three others that were familiar to us, but went in great shape. A real artist to his fingertips. Closed to a rousing hand and was compelled to respond to an encore which consisted of recitations and a little closing speech. BINNS, BINNS & BINNS. 17 min. F.S., close in one. This act is well known and needs no further comment than to remark that it is funnier than ever and musically just as skilful. Kept the audience in laughter throughout and closed strong. BERZAC'S CIRCUS. 10 min. F.S. This act is always a big scream here, and this time as big, if not bigger than ever. Shouts of the crowd fairly shook the building. A great act for everybody. DOOIN & McCOOL. "After the Game." 20 min. in one. The well known catcher of the Phillies and the probable manager, assisted by James McCool, the well known Philadelphia minstrel. From a singing standpoint alone, the act is all right. Dooin has a very good voice, while McCool is undoubtedly one of the best singers of Irish songs we have ever had on our stage. The way the act is put together, it gives opportunity for quite some laughs on the strength of Dooin's ball-playing. The act was extremely well received, big applause for each number and closed strong. From a box office attraction, it is certainly a winner, as our house this afternoon was absolute capacity and there is no question but what Charlie Dooin was a drawing card. FLYING BANVARDS. 11 min. F.S. The Banvards, which were our closing act last week, were put on to close this afternoon only because of the non-arrival of el Capitaine's baggage. El Capitaine will go on in the regular manner tonight, the show running as follows:- BENNETT TRIO GRACIE EMMETT & CO. T. NELSON DOWNS CHIP & MARBLE LADDIE CLIFF BINNS, BINNS & BINNS EL CAPITAINE DOOIN & MCCOOL BERZAC'S CIRCUS KINETOGRAPH KINETOGRAPH. "Two Sides to Every Story." A good comedy film on the subject of a widow and widower who marry without disclosing to each other the fact that they each have children. Very amusing with a good finish. "Baby Swallowed a Nickel." A good comedy film. GENERAL REMARKS. A ripping good show, as everybody realizes, and one of the biggest houses that we have had within a period of two years. Every act went big and this augurs well for big business for the balance of the week. Alcede Capitaine. Finished and beautiful trapeze and rope act. 8 min F.S.
