C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. MARCH 21-1910. GALETTI'S BABOONS. 12 min. F.S. Same act that has appeared here before. Not so strong as on previous visits, presumably due to the fact that we have played so many monkey acts before. Closed fair. SAM DODY. 12 min. in one. Good line of Italian dialect songs but the monologue material is better. However, all of it has merit and originality. Some laughs during the act and fairly strong close. FIVE ALPINES. 11 min. F.S. This act strongly prepossesses the audience right from the first. Their paraphernalia is showman-like and their costuming brilliant. They lose no time and get right to work. all four of them on the double wire--two men and three women. Do all sorts of stunts, such as turning hand-springs, jumping rope on the wire, etc. The feat of jumping from one parallel wire to the other has never been seen here before and gets a big hand. The girls are very pretty and altogether an act that is thoroughly novel and pleasing. Every one of their feats got big applause. The closing with ground-tumbling gets a strong hand. McDEVITT & KELLY. 10 min. in one. Two boys who have never been seen here before, but as dancers on the mat proved themselves to be very much all right. One of them is a good deal of a comedian. Went right after the audience and got them big. The best closing hand of any dancing act we have had for a long time. Inasmuch as neither the Alpines nor Madden & Fitzpatrick open or close in one, this necessitated adding another act,-McDevitt & Kelly-for good measure. MADDEN & FITZPATRICK. 27 min. F.S. Scene represents a clubman's apartments. The clubman comes in at midnight, expecting his partner. Instead of that a burglar climbs through the window, being watched by the police from the outside. He entertains the burglar in an unexpected manner and finds in him musical talent. The burglar does some good piano fireworks which gets good applause. Finishes with some pathos and slow music. Act carries a good moral and the pathetic finish is convincing. Good closing hand. MIGNONETTE KOKIN. 14 min. in one. Same act as previously played. Went only mildly on her opening songs, but closed very well with her dancing imitations. MLLE. DAZIE. 29 min. F.S. Big advance hand. Second presentation of this act in this house. Stronger and more artistic than ever. Mlle. Dazie has perfected the part and her dancing, as well as her dancing, is delightful. Stage setting, costuming, everything finished and brilliant, leaving nothing to be desired in any detail. The applause after the tragic finish was strong. LEO DONNELLY. 18 min. in one. Good advance hand. Local favorite here. Introduced some new material. Held the audience all the way through. Has fulfilled the predictions of two years ago, and is now one of the best monologue men in the business. Closed with "Gunga Din." WARD & CURRAN. 27 min. F.S. Owing to the fact that CLIFFORD & BURKE could not appear on account of illness, Ward & Curran were substituted in their old act, "The Terrible Judge." This is always a winner here. Held the spot in great shape. Laughter and applause throughout. MANGEAN TROUPE. 8 min. F.S. This is a great act, and makes a strong closer. Each one of their feats got big applause, the little girl making an especial hit, as usual. KINETOGRAPH. "Baby's First Tooth." Very amusing series. GENERAL REMARKS. This is a surprise show and as it stands, the matter of sequence should win out very strong. CUTS SAM DODY. Reference to wife as "the lemon and going into the water, etc." LEO DONNELLY. Reference to vaccination story.
