C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. MAY 16, 1910. BEN BEYER & BRO. 9 Min. F.S. One works straight, the other blackface messenger boy. Both of them are expert bicyclists and unicyclists on the regular wheel and on their various funny trick wheels. Received some good applause for their many stunts. The blackface wheelman is by far the cleverer and introduces considerable comedy. Closed with a strong hand after the finishing feat which got a big laugh. REIDY & CURRIER. 14 min. in one. Carry their own drop which is very artistic. Both make a good presentation, Miss Currier being not only a fine vocalist, but an excellent harpist. Songs mostly new and charmingly rendered. Received good applause for each selection, and closed well. BYERS & HERMANN. 17 min., open in one, close F. S. A very good act for this spot. One is a clever clown comedian, his partner a remarkable contortionist. His various feats as the "skeleton" are warmly applauded as they well deserve. The clown's work on the tight-wire also got a good hand. Action is rapid, with plenty of surprises in the way of illusions and grotesque slapstick comedy. Closed well. COTTER & BOULDEN. 14 min. in one. Make good appearance. Open with song fairly well received, proceed to excellent wooden-shoe dancing by Cotter. Miss Boulden then gives some juvenile song selections, with banjo accompaniment. Has a sweet singing voice, and received good applause. Closed well with a darky duo. NEIL O'BRIEN. 24 min. Open one, close F.S. "Fighting the Flames." This is certainly one screamingly funny comedy. From the minutes O'Brien entered (to good advance applause) right up to the ludicrous finish, there is something ridiculously funny every second of the time. O'Brien has got the darky character down as fine as Dockstader himself, and his material crammed full of happy turns and particularly witty surprises. Roars of laughter and at times the show is actually stopped for a moment. Smashing big finish. JULIA FRARY. 12 min. in one. Advance applause. Miss Frary has a pleasing, jolly, individual manner, and sings very well. Has a good selection of songs. She chaffs herself a little after the manner of May Irwin. Good applause and an encore. SISTERS GASCH. 8 min. F.S. These two young ladies make a mighty fine appearance. Both dress tastefully. One of the most finished and skilful of the head-and-hand balancing acts that we have ever played. Repeated applause, and a very strong finish. CHARLES KENNA. 18 min. one. Advance applause. Well known here and well liked. Act is full of original humor and keeps the audience in constant laughter with his clever curbstone remarks. A good many local hits which took well. Strong close. Good act, a strong spot. "FUTURITY WINNER." 16 min. F.S. Same act as presented here before but with a new cast. Went better than ever before, being better acted. It held the crowd spellbound all the way through right up to a smashing finish. This is a big act of the melodramatic kind and makes an ideal closer. KINETOGRAPH. "An Interrupted Honeymoon." One of the funniest moving-picture series we have ever played. In fact, it proves more than ever that the Essanay people out West are discounting the French at their own game, when it comes to comedy. GENERAL REMARKS. This is an excellent show throughout, and played off to perfection. there is abundant comedy, with nothing heavy, making a pretty near ideal bill for this time of the year.
