PROVIDENCE E. F. ALBEE DECEMBER 12, 1921 The bill this week is quite a good one. One or two acts are only fair but it played well as a whole. CHARLES LOVENBERG EL CLEVE - Xylophonist. Made a very good opening act, bright and lively and went exceedingly well. 15 minutes in one. BOYLE & BENNETT - Eccentric dancers. These people have a new twist in the dancing line which the audience was quick to recognize and they got considerable laughter as well as applause. 10 minutes in one. HICKMAN BROTHERS - One black face and one white face comedian. Rather an old fashioned act but it did fairly well. 16 minutes in two. POWERS & WALLACE - An exceedingly clever couple who have some new ideas in the flirtation line and a very good burlesque on a country wedding. 18 minutes in one. The EIGHT BLUE DEMONS - Arab Acrobats. A good act while it lasts but it seems to be over almost before it begins. Pretty big salary to pay for an acrobatic act which runs only 5 minutes full stage. MULLER & STANLEY - Comedy woman with man foil which did not score at all. Got some laughs but hardly an act that is worth talking about. 23 minutes, open and close in one; short bit in full stage. BABE RUTH WITH WELLINGTON CROSS & CO. - It was very difficult to tell whether Babe Ruth drew us any money yesterday. We had a very bad rain storm the whole day long and the two legitimate houses had their first plays in several weeks and they sold tickets two for the price of one, and our Victory Theatre with "Ten Nights In A Bar Room" did a terrific business. So all along Mr. Ruth had terrific competition and our business was not as big as some other Mondays we have had, but a little better than the average. The act as a whole went very well but there were many people who expressed disappointment at what Ruth does on the stage. I don't know what they expected but that is what they said. Never since we have run vaudeville here, a matter of 23 years, has an act been worked up, as we have worked him here. Our advance sale is not particularly big and it remains to be seen what he can draw in Providence. Entire act ran 27 minutes. Open full stage, close in one. SYBIL VANE - Soprano. Miss Vane scored her usual success in this city. 17 minutes in one. DALY, MACK & DALY - A very good skating act which held the audience very well indeed. 8 minutes full stage.
