PHILADELPHIA B. F. KEITH'S JANUARY 2nd, 2 FABLES & "TOPICS OF THE DAY" - Another good series of "Fables", one of the very best and "Topics" fully up to average. ADELAIDE HERMAN - (12 mins.) Her usual magical act with a few changes. Did very well as an opener. ELM CITY FOUR - (13 mins.) Straight singing quartette of male voices. Work in evening clothes, good voices and harmony. "DRESS REHEARSAL" - (18 mins.) This was a great laugh winner for us. and is very well played. A lot of good comedy lines and situations and ought to fit in nicely anywhere as a comedy feature. MARGUERITA PADULA - (15 mins.) Did as well as ever for us, holding her spot nicely and getting liberal returns for her songs, whistling and piano playing. MC WATTERS & TYSON - (25 mins.) Their act is framed up along the same lines they have been using for several seasons, but several changes have been made and it got over in good shape, getting plenty of laughs and applause. ETHEL LEVEY - (25 mins.) Miss Levey probably pleased those who came to see her but her program of songs are just a bit too classic to satisfy the usual vaudeville theatre-goer and their response was not over-enthusiastic. Her numbers are all given high tone and Miss Levey's artistry cannot be denied. She started lightly with a very slow number but did better as she went along and finished to a good hand without doing anything big. HARRY LANGDON - (18 mins.) [Text illegible; hidden in fold of paper] hits we have seen in a long time and it is an act that will not only please inside the theatre but create talk outside it and therefore it is a valuable addition to vaudeville. It is a sure-fire comedy hit and clean in every particular. BURNS & FREDA -(16 mins.) This was also a good sized comedy hit and an excellent next to closing number. The act also contains some good music and their comedy is capably handled. FOUR CASTING MELLOS - (6 mins.) One of the principals in this act is a girl, a remarkable gymnast and they have a routine of tricks that forms one of the showiest casting acts we have played. They also deserve special mention for the way the act is dressed. It is out of the ordinary in its class and an excellent closing number. PATHE NEWS - (6 mins.) Very satisfactory. GENERAL REMARKS - Having plenty of comedy and a good average bill surrounding the headliner with a name, the show got off to an excellent start, with three big holiday shows on Monday, and it gave every evidence of pleasing generally and holding some draw for the remainder of the week. -O-
