PHILADELPHIA B. F. KEITH'S FEB. 14th. 2 FABLES & TOPICS OF THE DAY--Fables were not so good this week. Topics up to the average. Used a special piece of film showing Abraham Lincoln with a short bit of verse. Well received. PAT & JULEE LEVOLO- 10 min. Man and woman on wire. Former does some clever tricks, also juggles. Routine got over nicely, but talk is slow and drags the act. Finished to a fairly good hand. LEON VAVARA- 20 min. Here not long ago as pianist for Irene Bordoni and does about the same piano numbers he did then, with more talk and closes with medley of popular airs. Excellent pianist and was well received. JAMES DOYLE & EVELYN CAVANAUGH- 17 min. A new combination that has given vaudeville a classy dancing turn with some very good comedy talk and all their material is well handled. Very good looking turn and brought big returns. BESSIE BROWNING- 20 min. Doing a variety of songs with costume changes and assisted by a man at the piano. Her songs appear original and she does each of them well, especially the comedy songs. Closed to a good hand. FRANKLYN & CHARLES - 20 min. A great novelty act and one of the big applause hits of the show. They have built this up into a very fine act and the combination of eccentric dancing with the splendid hand-to-hand tricks proved a genuine surprise. Went very big. DE LYLE ALDA & CO. - 33 min. Very showy, plenty of snap, good singing and plenty of fast stepping. Also stands up well in comedy value and was a big hit. Miss Alda was booked in late to take the place of Dorothy Jardon and proved an excellent substitute. The piece, "Sadie-One of Those Girls" is a cleverly written bit of satire and the company supporting her helps considerably. AL HERMAN- Just as big a laughing hit as ever in this house where he has played often and is very popular. Has some new stuff and a couple of good songs, helped with a boy in one of the boxes. Closed strong. 18 min. "MARRY ME" - 22 min. One of the George Choos productions with Guy Voyer featured. Nice, showy act, good flash, but lacking the necessary punch to make it above the ordinary class of girl turn. Needs comedy and some snap to the numbers, which are only fairly well done. Did rather well in the closing position of a show that had plenty of singing and dancing on ahead. PATHE NEWS- 5 min. Up to the average. Reel also had a small piece of film dvoted to Lincoln's Birthday. GENERAL REMARKS- Entire bill contained class and color above the average and proved thoroughly satisfactory. More than the usual average of singing and dancing, but the bill is evenly balanced and ran smoothly with the new headliner holding the position in fine style. CUTS Pat & Julee Levolos-- Eliminate remarks "knocking" Philadelphia and local hotel. Leon Vavara-- Use of the words "My God" Bessie Browning- Words "Go Hell" in Chinee song Al Herman- Mention of "divorce party" "Marry Me" -- "She must be from Hollywood.
