C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. AUG. 15, 1910. THE GREAT HUGO. 10 min. F.S. This man has a very showy act, the scene representing a Roman Colesseum. Works the act in good showmanlike manner, the feats consisting of the regulation strong man stunts, with cannon balls, projectiles, etc. The act got frequent applause and closed well. A good opener. CHALK SAUNDERS. 9 min. in one. Advance applause. An old favorite here. Amused the audience with drawings of various characters. Received good applause and closed well. POTTS BROS. & CO. "Double Troubles. 14 min. F.S. This is a very breezy sketch on the old subject of cousins who resemble each other and who place a young bride in a very amusing and embarrassing predicament. The situations are funny and received considerable laughter. The parts are well taken, Miss Haslam is a very pretty woman and a capable actress. Held the spot in good shape and closed well. THE CLEVER TRIO. 18 min. in one. A local trio that made very good in this place on the bill. Three changes of costume and a good [line?] of songs with clever eccentric dancing. Considerable applause throughout and closed well. SGT. BRENNAN. 11 min. F.S. A very prepossessing chap who evidently takes great pleasure in his work. I doubt if people understand how very difficult these feats in diabolo are; nevertheless, they are spectacular and beat anything that has ever been seen here. Good applause with each feat. Closed with a remarkable trick in bounding the bobbin from perpendicular spring boards clean across stage. Big applause. MELANI FOUR. 13 min. in one. Three men and a woman, all good vocalists and instrumentalists in peasant costume of Italy. Sing the regulation Italian and French popular songs from the operas. Received good applause and closed well. Held the spot in good shape. "THE LITTLE STRANGER." 16 min. in 3. This act has been described from New York, and is a decided novelty. Held the interest of the audience through the racing scene up to the pathetic finish. Closed well. BERNARD & HARRISON. Advance hand. 15 min. in one. Bernard plays to perfection the part of the Altoona Hebrew on a buying tour to a big city. The act is full of the brightest hits, only one or two having been heard here before. Laughter throughout and a strong finishing hand. FREY TWINS. 8 min. in three. This is an interesting wrestling act, two men making a very good appearance and using an elaborate plush drop. Act consists in wrestling poses and an actual contest, the father of the twins being the referee. Some scattered applause throughout and a good closing hand. KINETOGRAPH. "Mugsie's First Sweetheart." An amusing comedy film, getting considerable laughter. GENERAL REMARKS. A good average summer bill, but compared with last week seems very quiet.
