C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 12, 1910. DOLLY BURTON'S DOGS. 14 min. F.S. Makes a good opener. There are about a dozen dogs of various breeds and are handled by a pretty girl in becoming costume. Do the regulation stunts which get scattered applause. The jumping of the grey hound is very interesting and gets good applause. Closing hand good. TOM MAHONEY 13 min in one. Makes a good appearance. The Irish songs are fairly well rendered, but the better of his act is his speech as Chairman of The Hod Carriers' Union. This is amusing. Closed well but not worthy of a stronger place on the bill. C.A. MURRAY & CO. 17 min F.S. A fairly clever sketch in which Mr. Murray takes three characters. Some of the lines are bright, and the act on the whole is fairly good in character humor, though not an act for a spot further down. Got a fairly strong closing hand after a rather weak finish. Just about gets by in this spot. AMY BUTLER & CO. 17 min in one. Advance hand. Miss Butler is a favorite here and each one of her songs received big applause. The four boys are exceptional singers, dancers and comedians. Act full of life and ginger, and the songs new and well chosen. Closed big. THE HORSE DEALER. 15 min F.S. This is an amusing and typical London Music Hall Sketch, but not on the pretentious lines of the Karno acts. The comedy is furnished principally by the four horses that are trained to play various tricks on a prospective purchaser, winding up with his smashing through a summer house, bringing the act up to a good close. Some clever bits of humor that get laughter, but not in the headline class of English comedy. Rightly placed on the bill. HENRY CLIVE & CO. 14 min in one. This is a well known act here, receiving advance applause and keeping the audience in good humor with his fake magic work. A very original chap. Miss Walker makes a pretty appearance. Mr. Clive introduced some new work and all his stunts were very amusing. Closed well. MASTER GABRIEL & CO. 22 min F.S. Advance hand. Same act as Buster Brown, with only slight variations. Good deal of laughter through the act, and a strong finish. Will draw the children this week. MARSHALL P. WILDER 14 min in one. Big advance applause. A bunch of new stories and some of his old favorites, and all of them got laughtered applause. Closed big as usual here where he is so well favorably known. ELTON-POLO TROUPE. 9 min F.S. This is a very skillful act as far as the gymnastic work is concerned and comprises some tricks that are new and extremely difficult and dangerous. All well applauded, the comedy, however, is bad and the act would be improved if it were eliminated. KINETOGRAPH "Celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Yokahoma", Japan". A very interesting travel film, "Latest fashion in skirts". Only fair comedy. General Remarks- The show as a whole went well this afternoon in spite of the fact that some of the acts in the earlier part of the bill did not come up to expectations after the strong recommendations that heralded them. However, it is a good average show an will undoubtedly make good with our regulars and the home coming crowd. CUT HENRY CLIVE Modification of the expression, "NEARER MY GOD TO THEE".
