C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JAN. 23, 1911. HARRY TSUDA. 13 min. F.S. A remarkable equilibrist, working with pedestals, globe and two chairs. Received good applause for each one of his unique stunts. His finishing feat is a marvel of balancing, making him do a good deal of hard labor something which the audience always likes to see. Closed very well. JENNINGS & RENFREW. 11 min. in one. A good line of parodies which got fair applause. All right for this spot on the bill, but not for any stronger place. MARTINETTIE & SYLVESTER. 9 min. F.S. Always go well here with their knockabout stuff, including ludicrous falls of the clown. Received generous applause and closed strong as usual. LUCIANO LUCCA. 9 min. in one. This man made quite a good impression this afternoon. His baritone is nothing extraordinary, although he sings in good method, but his soprano is quite phenomenal, and his transition from one to another instantly and without effort, wins applause. Compelled to give an encore. Closed well. VALERIE BERGERE & CO. "Carmen." 27 min. F.S. Advance applause for Miss Bergere. Miss Bergere held the interest of the audience throughout her play as she has done before, and proved herself a Philadelphia favorite as usual. Big applause at the finish and several curtain calls. ROONEY & BENT. "At the News Stand." 17 min. in two. Advance applause. Same act as presented here before with a few new jokes. Went as big as usual, particularly Pat's dancing which was strongly encored. Closed big after a second encore. PIANO PHIEND MINSTRELS. 25 min. F.S. This act is based on Lasky's former success but is not nearly as big a hit. The voices are good, the piano-playing, likewise and the selection of songs all new. But the costuming and stage setting of the act are not up to the Lasky standard. However, the applause was liberal for individual work and the fat comedian particularly got a good hand for his original coon song, kidding himself on his weight. Made a good finish. It seems a pity for the sake of a few dollars to let an act go back as this one has. RAYMOND & CAVERLEY. 19 min. in one. These people always go very strong here. Introduce a lot of new material, all of it was uproariously funny. Laughter throughout and a very strong close. Can hold any spot with entire credit. SENSATIONAL BOISES. 7 min. F.S. Three men and a woman, all well dressed, the latter making a particularly pleasing appearance. Use the highest triple bars we have ever had here and perform some of the best feats in this class of act. Got liberal applause throughout and made a ripping good close. KINETOGRAPH. Best three films we have had in a long time. The first one, "In Full Cry," is a short film showing a deer hunt in France. Very realistic and without anything objectional. "Picturesque Majorica." A very beautiful scene on the Mediterranean, - "The American Fleet in French Waters." A splendid film that has the advantage of a patriotic finish. All these films seem to lend themselves particularly well to the Photoplane and were applauded. GENERAL REMARKS. This is a very good average show from every standpoint. There was not an act that did not make good, although the Piano Phiend Minstrels were somewhat disappointing. The honors went to Miss Bergere, Raymond & Caverley and the Boises, the latter an exceptionally strong closer. CUTS. RAYMOND & CAVERLEY. Expression "For God's Sake." PIANO PHIEND MINSTRELS. Expression "Oh! H---." MUSIC HALL Pawtucket R. I. Jan 23-24-25 SMITH & ROMAINE Man and woman singing, dancing and talking, A HALLOWEEN FANTASY. Special set scenery some good effects 17 minutes just went fair STROLLING PLAYERS Two men, singing and music, Italian makeup, 15 minutes in one, went very well STICKNEY'S CIRCUS MAN & WOMAN, DOG AND PONY, animals clever, man does some good comedy on stilts, act caught on went big 10 minutes full satg David R Buffinton
