CRITICISM B.F. KEITH'S UNION SQUARE -- Continued -2- DUGAN & RAYMOND Offer a pleasing little skit, called, "On the Corner of the Street", on the style of Mack and Walker. It contains many bright lines, and they manage to secure numerous laughs. Both have fairly good voices and pleasing personalities. In this very hard position, they managed to get over nicely. Fifteen minutes in one. "WOMAN PROPOSES" A one-act comedy written and presented by Paul Armstrong. It tells quite a novel story and is an excellent idea. The theme is a discussion takes place between a man and a woman in a conservatory. The man contends that women do the heavy work in a proposal; the woman the opposite view. Three lovesick couples enter, one after the other and prove most amusingly that the man is right, whereupon he blurts out a proposal to her regardless of his fine arguments. The comedy is bright and the lines are on the Clyde Fitch order. The story is interesting and received plenty of laughs. Twenty-two minutes, full stage. BURTON AND LERNER An act on the style of Bixley and Lerner, although the new man is not Bixley by any means. However, they got the laughs and held this position nicely. Twelve minutes in one. HOUANG YUEN Three men, two impersonating Chinamen and a genuine Chink, giving us an elaborate illusion act, with many feats in magic, producing everything from a grain of rice to a duck. Rather a pretentious sort of an act and they get away with it in pretty good shape, although don't believe in bunking the public with an act of this kind. Presume he wants too much money for the act for the small time houses and the larger theatres could not use the act as a feature. Twenty minutes, full stage
