B. F. KEITH'S HIPPODROME Week of Oct 13, 1913 Cleveland, Ohio We have volcanic Eva Tanguay in opposition this week at the Shubert Colonial Theatre with volcanic prices. That means going up. The only price she advertises is 25c up, but investigation shows that the orchestra costs $1.50 a throw. She is doing some business but not hurting anyone. We opened to more money than a week ago Monday. Jack Norworth made a home-run, Ethel Green came under the wire a length ahead, but Dr. Herrman foozled. A man can hazard his bunker but he's in mighty bad form when he foozles on the tee on Monday afternoon, because at that time the critics are present. The show as a whole is a good one but we have had a great many that were better. For some reason it does not seem to blend as it should and it is shy on speed. However, there is no great fault to fin with it and we will go along and I doubt if we will know that Tanguay is in town. EL REY SISTERS - - Two well dressed and good looking young women. 8 minutes in full stage. Palace. Carry own mat in 3 sections. An exceptionally good skating act with a strong dancing finish. (Syracuse) JOE WHITEHEAD - - 12 minutes in 1. Street. An original comedian who establishes himself from the start and makes a big hit with his dancing which is of the finished variety. (Detroit) BYRON & LANGDON - - "The Dude Detective". 15 minutes in 3. L.F. This act is well known here and aside from some rather ugly gowns worn by Miss Langdon there is nothing to comment on. It did not get over yesterday afternoon as well as usual. (New York) VAN BROTHERS - - 16 minutes in 1. Special drop. Music and comedy. Their comedy is much better than their music and helped win a great deal of applause. (Pittsburg) THE VIVIANS - - Man and girl. Special Garden, drop in 5. 18 minutes of the best sharpshooting ever seen in Cleveland. The girl does some remarkable shooting from the balcony in addition to singing some old song accompanied by Mr. Vivian on bells which are played through the medium of rifle bullets projected from his gun. The subtle comedy of Mr. Vivian is a feature of the act. (Cincinnati) ETHEL GREEN - - 20 minutes in 1. Olio. A Charming, graceful and entertaining singing comedienne who wins her audience from the start. Does four numbers and an encore with four changes. her "school kid" is a gem and the hit of her act. (New York) DR CARL HERRMAN - - Electrical Wizard. 20 minutes in F.S. Palace. Stage full of electrical appliances which are to be found in all up-to-date physician's offices. Act is simply an elaborate exhibition of static electricity, greatly enhanced by eight "plants" who do comedy falls etc., very similar to Pauline's "plants". There is too much business with the seats of their pants to make it a pleasing act to the ladies and children. The Dr. has a good speech about himself and his own wonderful (?) genius, but it did not make much of an impression upon the audience. (Open) JACK NORWORTH - - 32 minutes in 1. Olio. Harry DeCosta at the Piano. Lots of new songs and several old favorites (selected by the audience) made this act the real hit of the show. His novel burlesque on the present-day travelogue in which he uses a series of moving pictures is a most delightful novelty and refreshing in its newness. His intimate attitude towards his audience is also responsible for the act going big with both audiences. (Cincinnati) HANLON, DEAN & HANLON - - - 9 minutes in F.S. Garden. Three men, two straight and one comedy. A new line of acrobatic stunts which can truthfully be classed as marvelous. The comedy work is as good as their muscular work is graceful and finished. The best act of the kind seen here in years. (New York)
