HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J. WEEK OCT. 27, 1913. Joseph R. Smith. LEANDER AND MACK--- Two men, dressed as policemen who do many acrobatic stunts among them some head and hand balancing tricks. Only a fair act. In three 8 min. IDA O'DAY---- Singing comedienne who renders five good numbers and makes five costume changes. Her costumes are very pretty and her voice although not strong is sweet. Her manners are winning and she gets her stuff over nicely. The act went very well. In one 15 min. O'BRIEN AND CALE---- Two men offer a novelty skit entitled, "Father's Visit". One man plays the part of a performer and is first seen in his dressing room making up. His aged father comes to visit him in the dressing room and after the meeting the old man leaves and goes out into one of the boxes and the other goes into one, sings three songs and cracks a few jokes while his father applauds him from the box. The act went very fair. 10 min in two, five min. in one, time of act 15 min. "SERGEANT BAGBY"---- Six men and a woman in a sketch from Irvin Cobb's story that appeared in the Saturday Evening Post. The scene is the front of an old mansion on a New Orleans street. Three old soldiers, two Confederates and one Yankee meet on re-union day. They get into an argument about a moving picture show which one has just come from and where he saw a picture of the Yanks chasing the Rebs. They are pacified by some rare of old whiskey, water and sugar and then they forget their differences in order to help marry a young couple whose marriage is opposed by the girl's stepfather. The play ends when the old northern soldier who has just been elected as a peace justice performs the ceremony with the two Confederates acting as witnesses. The stepfather arrives while the ceremony is going on, but he is held back at the point of a gun. The act is one long laugh. The situations are good and everything is put over in good shape. The act went very well. F.S. 20 min. INTERMISSION---- PERRY'S MINSTREL MISSES----Nine girls in a minstrel first part with the usual interlocutor and the Tambo and Bones, the latter two being blackface and the others white. They crack jokes, do some dancing and singing specialties. One girl does a violin specialty. They dances are nicely executed and the songs are delivered well. The act went big. In two, special drop, 35 min. MILT COLLINS----"The Speaker of the House". This act is on the style of Cliff Gordon's. It went big. In one 15 min. "IN THE BARRACKS" Presented by Jesse Lasky. A military operetta with nine men and five women. Scene a soldier's barracks. This is another pretentious act with some good songs and just a little dancing. The plot concerns a German soldier of rank who wants to marry an American girl, but is prevented by orders of the Kaiser until the American girl's chauffeur posing as a member of Royalty secures the Kaiser's consent over the telephone. The costumes on both the soldiers and the women are handsome. Everything is put over very well, the act being very good. F.S., special set, 35 min. HUDSONGRAPH--- O.K.
