CRITICISM OF 1ST SHOW. PHILADELPHIA SEPT. 15TH Stereopticon - 3 shows - 15 mins. - Sheet - Interesting. Lawrence Crane - 3shows - 16 mins. - Fancy in Two - One of the best of the "small" magicians; all his work, good and earned laughter. Clifford & Hall - 3 shows - 13 mins. - C. D. - Fair act. Carolyn Young - 3 shows - 8 mins. - Fancy in one - Pleasing whistler; won quite an amount of applause from the audience. La Veen & Chameroy - 3 shows - 9 mins. - C. D. - Compare favorably at times with the DeCourcy Brothers; earned enthusiastic applause. Harry B. Lester - 3 shows - 17 mins - Fancy in one - About the ordinary three-a-day monologuist; went very well, however. Henderson & Ross - 3 shows - 11 mins. - Farm Set Cottage and Fence-Man's rope walking was very popular, provoking much laughter. Lester & Anger - 3 shows - 15 mins. - Fancy in one - Given a slight reception, and practically all of their stuff went in fine style, although their material wasn't notable. De Courcy Bros. - 2 shows - 8 mins. - Palace in Four - Perhaps the best act of its kind; much general applause. Jas. Richmond Glenroy - 2 shows - 20 mins. - St. in one - Apparently as popular as before. Four Cuttys - 2 shows - 18 mins. - C. D. - Among the foremost straight musical acts, although, perhaps, far from being so satisfactory as the Willis Family; very popular. Bellman & Moore - 2 shows - 21 mins. - C. D. - Scarcely up to first class value, although the vocal end of it is rarely equalled in variety; earned favor. Josephine Sabel - 2 shows - 13 mins. - Fancy in one - Big hit. Four Rianos - 2 shows - 15 mins. Own drops - The only novel acrobatic specialty seen here in a long while; nothing better in the way of monkey impersonators; an act lively throughout, and provoked more laughter than does the average acrobatic turn. Biograph - 3 shows - 12 mins. - Sheet - Average show. COMMENT:-Think we lack comedy in "big" end of show, an element that has been a big feature here right along. Practically everything seemed to please the house. JOHN J. KEIRANS.
