12 NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK SEPTEMBER 29TH, 1902. STEREOPTICON - Usual collection of views. 10 minutes in one. SATSUMA - NH-3 - Japanese juggler and equilibrist. As usual, he is one of the most reliable performers in his line of work, and makes an exceptionally strong three-shows-a-day act. 17 minutes, full stage. NH -3 - KLEIN & CLIFTON - Man and woman in singing and dancing specialty, introducing a litte talking which amounts to nothing at all. The singing is on tthe average of teams of this kind, but the dancing is very good and they work so hard and so conscientiously that they win the audience to an extent worthy of a much higher priced act. 11 minutes in one. MH-3 - CAROLYN YOUNG - Whistling solos. This young lady is a very nice and genteel looking, and really whistles about as well as any woman I have ever heard. Of course these acts do not amount to much, but they are usually cheap and will do to sandwich in once in a while, in the way of novelty. 9 minutes in one. ER-3 - RICE & WALTERS - Two men in acrobatic comedy specialty. One of them made up straight and the other eccentric. They have got little bits of almost every act in the business, but they do it remarkably well In fact, I think the comedian in his work on the table is much better than Keno, of Keno, Welsh & Melrose. Act went very strong. 19 minutes, full stage. AR-3 - TOM MOORE - Coon songs. There is probably no white man in the business who can sing these songs so much like a negro. He reminds me very much, so far as his voice is concerned, of Ernest Hogan. It is a very good act. 13 minutes in one. ER-3 - ALBURTUS & MILLAR - Man and woman in club juggling and cornet solos. This is the original Alburtus of Alburtus & Bertram. It is needless to say that he is a very fine club juggler. Millar is Jesse Millar, the cornetist, and a fine one she is too. They are attempting a comedy at and while the comedy does not amount to much it is not at all offensive. Miss Miller closes the act with cornet solos which go very strongly. 16 minutes, open full stage, close in one. ER-3 - HEDRIX & PRESCOTT - Man and woman in singing and dancing act, in which, as usual, the dancing is the principal feature, their singing voices not amounting to much. can be classed good act. 15 minutes in one. YHR-2 - Joe MAXWELL & Co. - Consisting of Maxwell himself and four men, in a vocal sketch entitled "The Fire Chief". The act does not differ in any way from its previous appearance here, with the exception of new songs being added. The quintette sings finely together, but I have always thought that Maxwell was unfortunate i his choice of songs, as he invariably selects something that is inclined to be slow and draggy. However, it is a good act and the voices harmonize about as well as any quintette I have ever heard. MHR-2 - MILLY CAPELL - And her Arabian horse and hunting dogs. To my mind, this is really one of the best, if not the nbest, animal act that has ever been imported. It is only a short act, being 10 minutes in length, but the animals work every minute and the finish is awfully strong. 10 minutes, full stage. AR-3 - AL. LAWRENCE - Monologue, Comedian - This performer always goes well, no matter where he is placed on the bill. His dialect work is excellent and he had some new stories that amused. In addition to this, I think he wears a dress suit better than any man I ever saw, and make;s an elegant appearance on the stage. 14 minutes in one. YHR-2 - MILES-STAVORDALE QUINTETTE - Five men; one of them playing a harp and four of them banjos. They call their music "songs without words" and are supposed to give an imitation of human voice. As a matter that it will go very much better. 12 minutes in one. YHR-2 - CHARKES GRAPEWIN & CO. - In "Above The Limit". The same production that he has always given here with this piece, and it goes very big. 29 minutes, full stage. GNH-2 - QUIGLEY BROS. - These two boys have a new act, called "A Congressman At Large". It is a talking act in one. They do no singing whatever. One of them is made up straight and the other as a neat Irish comedian, such a man as you would meet on the street any day. This one is supposed to have been a member of congress, and the conversation between the two gives an opportunity to exploit some very witty sayings. They had a very hard place on the bill, as they followed Grapewin's big talking act, and did not get on until about four o'clock. On their entrance, a great many people were going out to catch trains, and, as a consequence, three or four minutes of their work was almost lost. After the audience got quieted down, however, they gained ground very rapidly, and they had an act that had about as much new material in it as I have heard given by any team lately. It can easily be called a very good act. 11 minutes in one. YHR-2 - THREE MARVELOUS MERRILS - Comedy bicyclists, I cannot say that it suffered any from the absence of the original comedian. They did some remarkable work on the wheels and the comedy is good throughout. 19 minutes, full stage. KR-3 - BIOGRAPH - Usual collection of views. 12 minutes in one. S. K. HODGDON.
