REPORT OF PROVIDENCE SHOW, OCTOBER 20, 1902. I do not know whether it is the fault of the audience or the show, but I never saw a bill go off so flatly. There was very little applause and less laughter, although the house was well filled. I can't find any fault with the individual acts, but there is so much of the quiet nature in the bill that that may be the cause of it. Steropticon. As usual. Texarkansans. Failed to appear. W. J. Tompkins. Monologuist and a little music in the act. He didn't get a good chance the first appearance as his trunk didn't get here. Judging from what he did, I should call it a fair act. 10 minutes in one. Balfrey and Hilton. Comedy bicyclists. A good act from any standpoint and very good from a 3 a day. 12 min. full stage. Little Clara Kirwin. This is a little Providence girl who sings a couple of coon songs and one other comic song, and on account of her local acquaintance is all right for us. I would hardly recommend her for the rest of the circuit. 10 min. in one, 3 shows. The Marinellas. Ring act. The man is very good but the woman amounts to little. Good three a day act, however. 12 minutes, full stage. John Healey. Same act he has been doing for the past couple of years, and which goes fairly well. 15 min. in one, 3 shows. Bedrix and Prescott. Dancing act which is beginning to get a little tiresome, having been seen here so much and they make no changes whatsoever in the turn. 12 min. open in three close in one, 3 shows. Sam Elton. Acrobatic Commedian. While his act was good, it was something of a disappointment as we didn't get the screams of laughter, that the big add in the Clipper led us to expect. The Miles Stavordale Quintet. A very food and novel musical act, which got the most applause on the bill. 10 min. in one, 2 shows. Ten-Ichi. & Troupe. In magical illusions. The opening of the act, the magical, by the young girl is simply repetition of what has been done by many three a day magicians here. The rope tying trick is very good and their water juggling singing and stories which were good. She didn't make the hit however, which she has usually made. 15 min. in one, 2 shows. Grapewin and Company. In "Above the Limit." First real laughs of the afternoon. 25 min. 2 shows, full stage. Julian Rose. Hebrew parodies and stories. This act is a sort of a cross between Joe Welch and Jess Dandy, but in no way approaches theirs in merit. From a two a day standpoint I can only call it a fair act. 2 shows, 14 min. in one. Stack and Milton. Very good bar act but they do nothing but what has been seen here before several times. Hardly as satisfactory an act, as some of the teams who introduce comedy in that line, and it being so very short is of little value. 7 min. full stage. Biograph O.K.
