30 Boston Show Week of Oct. 27, 1902 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 10 min. in one -- Good list of views. Edith Richards, 3 shows, 9 min. in two, can close in one if necessary -- An attractive looking young woman who plays well on the sleigh bells, trombone and other instruments. Makes a capital three-show act. Jake and Jane Bernard, 3 shows, 20 min. open full stage, close in one -- German dialect comedian and singing soubrette. Man makes up in imitation of his brother, and apes his work to some extent. The act is all right for early place in the three-show section, and it does not seem probable that it will ever get beyond that. Satsuma, 3 shows, 17 min. full stage -- This oldest of all Japanese jugglers and equilibrists holds up remarkably well, though failing eyesight is rendering him uncertain in almost all his tricks. His foot juggling scored the strongest. It is still a very good three-turn act. Carleton & Terre, 3 shows, 18 min. in one -- Talking ans singing comedians. A fairly good three-turn act. La Nole Brothers, 3 shows, 10 min, fill stage -- First time here for these two men, who give a fairly good exhibition on a revolving ladder, one of them wokring straight, and the other made up as a clown. The finish of the act is somewhat sensational, as the ladder comes apart, leaving the two men on either end of one of the sides. It got a great round of applause. Dave Nowlin, 3 shows, 15 min. in one -- Mimetic and singing comedian, with quite an attractive personality. He made quite a hit by pretending to sneeze between his imitations. He makes a very good three-turner. Roberts, Hayes and Roberts, 3 shows, 20 min. open full stage, close in one -- Eccentric comedy by two men and a young woman, which does well enough for an early place in the bill, in some houses would probably be considered very funny. One of the members of the team is he who was formerly known as Leo La Farge, the young fellow who got his first start in this house, and then went back on us at the time of the White Rats strike. He is a very good dancer. Stack and Milton, 2 shows, 7 min, full stage -- Horizontal bar performers, showing the same sort of work they have been doing for several years past. It is one of the best acts of the kind in the business, but it us awfully short, and when you come to take into consideration that it is necessary to place a good act either side of it in one, they are getting too much money for it. Hedrix and Prescott, 3 shows, 12 min. in one -- Neat dancing act, but not strong enough to hold the place in the bill it had this afternoon. They will be moving up earlier during the balance of the week. Charles E. Grapewin and Anna Chance, 2 shows, 22 min. full stage -- P{layed for the first time here their latest sketch, "The Awakening of Pipp". It is funny enough, but has a tendency to slump, and Grapewin overdoes the "morning after" jag. It is my personal opinion that the sketch is going to go big before the end of the week. Julian Rose, 2 shows, 15 min in one -- Th most popular Hebrew comedian who plays this house. He had a pretty stiff place in the bill this afternoon, and, all things considered, he can be classed as "having made good." His jokes and songs were nearly all new here. The Baggesens, 2 shows, 15 min. full stage -- Scored the laughing hit of the show, going bigger if anything than I ever remember them to have done in the past, although there was absolutely nothing new to their work. Mamie Remington and Pickaninnies, 2 shows, 16 min. in one -- This girl shows notable improvement in her work. and held her audience well. She works with a quartet of pickaninnies who sing and dance extremely well. The act was a hit. Biograph, 4 shows, 12 min in one -- Fair selection of pictures. Comment: The three-show section of the bill is eminently satisfactory in every respect, and the only slump occurs at about the point where Julian Rose comes in the bill. With an act to fill this hole, it will be thoroughly all right. Of course, it is not strong as last week's show, but that was not to be expected.
