CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S THEATRE, PHILA., PA JAN. 5TH Trask & Gladden-15 mins. in one-Two men in a singing and dancing set in sand;neat dressers; good. Herbert DeVeau-15 mins.-C. D. in 2;close in one-Alledged crayon artist. As an artist I think he is a gigantic bluff. However, the act does no harm. Crawford & Duff-15 mins.-C. D. in 2;close in one-Man and woman in a singing and dancing set;nothing to boast of. Golden Gate Quintette-15 mins.-Garden in three-Five coons, dressed neatly; fair singers;have a corking wind-up with live chickens which carries the act. Bros. French-14 mins.-Two men in a bicycle set, using the unicycle entirely; an excellent bike act;quick and lively. Full stage. Fialkowski-15 mins.-Drapery in one-Animal impersonator, also mimic;good. The [Padettes?]-25 mins.-Gar. in 5-The back bone of the show. Ada Arnoldson-12 mins. in one-soloist;good. Midglay & Carlisle-22 mins.-C. D. in 3-close in one-Juvenile skit. Midgley is getting better every day. Act is one of the best in the show, intensely interesting and goes strong. Five Juggling Johnsons-10 mins.-Full stage-Arrived too late to put up their own drop and worked in a gard on in three. Act is full of action, and as club swingers they are wonders. Excellent. Three Keatons-20 mins.-Full stage-Joe, Myra and "Buster", the kid. "Buster holds the act up and makes it fair to good;without him it would be flat. Delmore & Lee-12 mins.-Black velvet drop in 3-Two men in an aerial ladder act, carrying their own "black art" drop and black velvet legs. They work in white and use a spot light;have an excellent aerial act. Haines & [Vidocq?]-18 mins.-Two door flats in one-Two men in blackface talking, singing and dancing act. Haines' quick action jokes carries the act, which is as good as any blackface act we book. Harmony Four-35 mins-Int. in 3-Four men, three eccentric make-up and one straight. The comedy carries the act rather than the singing. Woodward's Seals-25 mins.-Arctic scene-Full stage-The feature. Edward Gray 15 mins. in one-Monologue, stories and mimicry; fair. Mr. & Mrs. Chas. T. Ellis-20 mins.-Int. in 3-In a comedy sketch, which is just about good and that's all. Everyone worked two shows for the first time in this house. Bill was so arranged so as to prevent its working up to a climax and then dropping flat. It started off "good", dropped to "fair", then went to "good" again, then to "very good" at 4.46, dropping to "good", then back to "fair" at 6.02. Orchestra went in at 2.45, following [Padettes?], and played until 5.45; at night from 8 to 10.30. H. A. DANIELS.
