CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S THEATRE,PHILA., PA. FEB. 16TH. Folly Trio-21 mins.-C. D.-Two men and a woman,in a new version of their old race track act. They open with German dialect stories and jokes and close with the finish of their old act. It's a good sketch and may get a better place on the bill. Mike Scott-11 mins. in one-Dancing Irishman. He is a find of Mr. Jordan's and we put him on here to fill in time. He does some clever wooden shoe dancing and is good to fill in on almost any bill. Ahern Bros.-13 mins.-[?ar.] in 3-Two men, acrobats, one heavy and the other light. They are slow workers and the small one is inclined to pose a great deal and spring the "please applaud" smile on the audience frequently. They do nothing startling, but can be classed as fair. Rae & Bressche-18 mins.-St. in 1-C. D. in 3-close in one-Man and woman, in a sort of a crazy disjointed talking act that can be classed as good. The woman talks like lightning and their unusual work in the close in one, where they use a stage hand, took the audience. Good act. J. Warren Keane-25 mins.-Drapery in one-card manipulator and illusionist. His act is not good enough for the place we gave it and will have to go up. Arthur & Jennie Dunn-22 mins.-C. D. F. in 3-The laughing hit of the show. Young Dunn received an ovation on his entry, and there were many in our orchestra chairs that knew him. However, his act was new to the audience, as all acts are in this house. Dunn's finish with the piano stool got for him a curtain call and he was obliged to respond with a short speech. Johnson & Wells-12 mins. in one-Man and woman, two coons, They do the regulation singing and dancing act in one. They are a lively working team and made good in their place. Moto Girl-10 mins.-Palace in 5-The advertised feature. I think she goes better every day. James Richmond Glenroy-15 mins. in one-Had nothing new to offer and offered it. His act got no great amount of applause. Can probably hold down his place. Papinta-13 mins.-Own set-Same act. This is probably the most pretentious sight act in vaudeville. It is an act that is always greatly appreciated, but not necessarily applauded. She held the closest attention throughout. Elfie Pay-13 mins. in one-Singing and specialties, went well ,and deserves the good place she gets on the bill. Charles E. Grapewin & Anna Chance-27 mins.-C. D. F. in 3-In their sketch, "The Awakening of Mr.Pipp.". The audiences seemed to be much interested in Grapewin's clever work and the act went well, although it did not make the hit that Dunn's offering did. Sydney Grant-18 mins. in one-Mimic,stories and songs. Had a little new stuff. We put him here to hold the audience for the wind-up instead of Glenroy. Florenz Troupe-12 mins.-Pal. in 5-Five men, a boy and a woman, in an acrobatic act. Their work is excellent, and with a little practice will be as good an acrobatic act as we have had. I understand they have not worked in eight weeks. Le Roy & Woodford-18 mins. in one-Man and woman. The woman acts as a feeder for the man,who is a lightning joke thrower. The act is a crazy talking act on the lines of Haines & Vidocq. Very good. Leon & Adeline-15 mins.-Car. in 4;close in one-Man and woman,in a juggling act. They introduce a few minor novelties. A good act for the early or late part of the bill. Newell & Nible-15 mins.-C. D. F. in 2-Man and woman, in a neatly dressed musical act. It is not an exceptionally strong musical act,but a good "small" one and seemed to please. Barry & Malvers-19 mins.-C. D. F. in 3-Man and woman,in a singing and comedy act. It is their old act,in which the man works as a tramp and the woman impersonates the ambitious actress. Fair act and went well in a very hard place. The show is without a question the strongest we have ever had at this house. With Papinta,Moto Girl,Grapewin & Chance and Arthur and Jennie Dunn, backed up by an excellent closing act, combine to make the bill and exceptionally strong one. A few shifts will be necessary, but they have been made. H. A. DANIELS.
