206 NEW YORK SHOW: WEEK MARCH 9th: STEREOPTICON:- Usual collection of views. 10 minutes in one: SR-SPAULDING:- Acroatic tramp. This is a very fair sort of an act and the fellow is quite a good acrobat, and while he is not excessively funny he gets along very nicely indeed and does some pretty good stunts. Can be called a good small act. 12 minutes; full stage. HR-STELLA RINEHART;- Wooden shoe dancing act. Same act that she has always done in the house, and it went as well as ever. 6 minutes in one. KR-KENNEDY & JAMES:-Man and woman in a comedy sketch, closing with some eccentric dancing in one. This act is only just fair. They have the idea all right, but seem to hardly reach the audience until they get nearly to the finish, when with their eccentric dancing they close fairly well. All right in an early part of the bill. 15 Mins. open full stage, can close in one if necessary. KR-BIOGRAPH:- The collection of views this wek is about the same as usual, with the exception of one picture which is illustrative of the Durbar in India, and I think it is one of the best pictures that the Biograph people have ever furnished us. There were two or three other pictures that went very well indeed, with a few old ones interspersed. On the whole it can be called a fairly good show.15 minutes in one. YRR-QUAKER CITY QUARTETTE:- This quartette in spite of its age, seems to be improving, and I think I never saw them do better than they did this afternoon. If it were not for the infirmity of the comedian, who is exceedlingly lame and seems to be growing worse constantly, I think it would be one of the best four acts in the country. 23 minutes; open full stage; close in one. GHR- WARTENBURG BROTHERS:- A couple of very neat, clever and nice appearing young fellows in an act that opens with acrobatics and closes with foot juggling, and I think it is one of the cleverest acts of the kind in the business. They have been here before but there seems to be an added finish to their act which makes it very much stronger. 11 Mins. F.S. NH-JAS. DOOLEY:- Blackface singing and dancing act. This performer is of the old team of Dooley & Fowley, and it hardly seems to be that he has fulfilled the promise that he made as a member of the team. There is no doubt but that he goes good or that he can't be called a good performer, but some how or other, as a member of the team he seemed to show signs of being a great artist, and in his single turn he certainly falls short of it. His topical song "Read the Answer in the Stars" saved him. Aside from that his act was only ordinary. 13 minutes in one. YNH-MILTON & DOLLIE NOBLES:- In their familiar act "Why Walker Reformed" It seemed to go about as strong as it ever did. 37 minutes; full stage. GYH-CAROLINE SHEPARD:- Soprano: Miss Shepard was obliged to appear this afternoon in her street clothes and without any make-up, as her trunk had not arrived. She has a very pleasing soprano voice, but did not go nearly as well as Miss George did week before last. There is no gainsaying the fact that she is a fine singer, but I think that she was better received in Boston and Providence from the fact that she is thoroughly well known in that section of the country. 10 minutes in one. YYH- TOM NAWN & CO:- Presenting his old act "A Touch of Nature". I think the act went fully as strong as it ever did here. Got lots of laughs throughout, and the skating finish was very strong. 26 Mins. full stage. GHR- JOSEPHINE SABEL:- Miss Sabel is about the first of the Parisienne style of chansonettes that we have ever played in this house. Through some misunderstanding a few years ago she has been kept off the circuit until now. She does a very neat, clever turn and while a little bit swift for our audiences here this afternoon at least, she is no way offensive, and made a very pleasing impression. With the proper sort of audience there is no doubt but that she would make a big hit and I look for her to go much better to-night than she did this afternoon.10 Mins. in one. [ILLEGIBLE] & MARTELL:- Two women in an alleged comedy and singing act. These women have a very clever idea but are absolutely unable to present it at all, and I am somewhat surprised that Boston did not close them; not that they do anything dirty or coarse, but it is simply mediocre. I did not expect a great act as they were only classed as fair, but I can't even give them that classification. Of course, they had an awfully hard place on the bill where it was almost impossible for anyone to make good, and that will be rectified to-morrow, but I don't think that the act will ever be any good for us. 21 Mins. open full stage; close in one. GRR- PONGO & LEO:- Two men in an acrobatic and aerial comedy act. They endeavor to imitate Frobel & Ruge, and while they are not nearly as good as those performers they manage to reach the audience after they get onto the bars on the trapeze, and close very good. 14 minutes in one. NH- LaPETITE ADELAINE:- Fancy and toe dancer, and a very good one. This style of act never seems to make much impression with our audiences, still she looks nice and is certainly a very clever dancer. 8 Mins. F.S. S. K. HODGDON.
