213 REPORT ON SHOW, KEITH'S THEATRE, PROVIDENCE, R.I. [RHODE ISLAND] WEEK OF MARCH 16, '03 [1903] (CHARLES LOVENBERG) Very good bill, not an objectionable act in it and most of them are of exceptionally, great merit. STEREOPTICAN. As usual. RUSSELL & LOCKET. Black-face song and dance act. Men with the usual long coats and wooden shoes, buck dancing. Fairly good act. 10 min. in one. BISONETTI & NEWMAN. Acrobats and hand balancers. This is by far the weakest act in the bill. May be classed as fair. 10 minutes full stage. BIOGRAPH. O.K. JOHN DONAHUE & MATTIE NICHOLS. In the same act they have always given us and which went as well as before. 11 minutes closing with about 2 minutes in one. KATHRY OSTERMAN. & CO. In "The Editor." A good lively dramatic sketch. Is all right if not depended upon for too important a place in the bill. They are going first rate with me at 2:30 and 8:20. 17 min. full stage. MARK SULLIVAN. Mimic. This act is going better this time than it ever had before. 18 min in one. THE QUAKER CITY QUARTETTE. In their usual act, "Fun in a Barbershop," which they have changed somewhat in the way of jokes and musical selections. Very good act. 23 min. open in three closing with about five minutes in one. THE THREE RIO BROTHERS. Ring act. These men are very good, look well, and work with great rapidity and the act is a very good one. 10 minutes full stage. CRANE BROTHERS & BELMONT. In the "Mudtown Minstrels." Act is too well known to need comment except to say it is a big laughable hit. 18 minutes in one. ROBERT HILLIARD & CO. In "The Littlest Girl." Unquestionably the best dramatic sketch on the Vaudeville stage, and is the greatest kind of a success here with me this week. 23 min. full stage. ELFIE FAY. Character song. This is the big hit of the show, much to my surprise. This young woman has certainly got a great deal of ability, and can twist her face into more different positions than any person I ever saw. She went on last night at nearly ten o'clock and the audience were loaf [loathe] to let her go. To my mind she is the best single woman in the business. 13 minutes in one. MOSHER, HOUGHTON AND MOSHER. Bicycle act introducing some comedy and some very good straight work, most of which is out of the ordinary order. A good act. 15 min. full stage. GEORGIA O'RAMAY. Character vocalist. Opens with a little Chinese song and finished with a couple of coon songs. Of course, her place in the bill was awfully hard and it would be difficult to judge just how she would go in an easier position. I should class the act, however, as fairly good. 12 min. in one. SWAN & BAMBARD. Eccentric acrobatic act similar to the old Smith & Cook act. Good. 14 min. full stage. COOK & SYLVIA. Coon songs and buck dancers of which the latter work is exceptionally good. The act is one that might be placed anywhere on the bill up to 8:30 and would go all right. 12 min. in one. MARTINI & MAXMILLIAN. Musicians and comedians. These people go first rate and the act should be classed good. 18 min. closing with three or 4 M. in one
