231 REPORT ON SHOW, KEITH'S THEATRE, PROVIDENCE, R. I. WEEK OF MARCH 30, '03. (CHARLES LOVENBERG) Show all in all is very satisfactory: goes with considerable snap and there is plenty of comedy; just enough sight acts and music. Yeager & Yeager. Colored team about as good as the average. I think we are getting too many of these acts therefore there is no novelty to them. 14 min. open two close in one, can work entirely in one. The Holdsworths. Man and woman in an act of singing, dancing and banjo playing. The man is fairly good but the woman is very amateurish. In a small way it may be classed as fairly good. 14 min. open in two close in one. Edwin Baker & Co. Japanese Operetta. This is a very pretty idea, poorly carried out. They have a very fetching scene of there own including some set-stuff and the music is really very nice but not well rendered. The comedy is very poor, still on account of its novelty in preferable to the old stereotype sets which we get in the three a day sections. 16 min. full stage. Matthews & Ashley. Two men, one made up straight the other as a Jew. Talking set. To my mind is only fairly good. 14 min. in one. Farnum Brothers. Acrobatic comedians. These men are entitled to credit for one thing if for nothing more and that is there immaculate gaul for stealing bodily the act which Caron & Herbert have done for years, and they added to it a little of the work of the Flood Brothers and one or two others and have not introduced a single idea of their own and at that, the set is only fairly done. I don't want to play it again. 16 min. open fulltage close in one. Hal Davis & Inez Macauley. Dramatic sketch, "The Unexpected." One of the best things in its line we have ever played and excellently rendered. 18 min. in three. Armstrong & Wright. Man and woan in a comedy singing and dancing act. The early part of this set is rather tame but they finish well, the feature being Miss Wrights endurance dancing on one foot. It is a good act in a small way but hardly strong enough for the place I am obliged to give it. 14 min. in one. George Felix & Lydia Barry. They do practically the same act they have always done over the circuit but they introduce quite a little new material. The act goes very well indeed. 25 min. full stage. George H. Wood. Blackface monologue. A very good act adn went splendidly with the audience especially the last half. 18 min. in one. Culver's Bicycle LOOP. There is no question as to the drawing power of this feature but it created no sensation with the audience. Nobody stood upand yelled and the riders managed to get a curtain call which was not at all forced upon them by the audience. It is one of those things that people expect a great deal more than they really see, however, it is pulling business and that is all we want. 10 min. in one. Mrs. Caroline Shepard. Made a big hit in a difficult place in the bill. 11 minutes in one. Elinore Sisters. In "The Adventures of Bridget Maguire." Went exceedingly well considering how late they are obliged to go on. 23 min. open in three closing in one. The Laments. Man and woman acrobats. Very nice act especially the work done by the woman who is exceedingly dainty and graceful. 10 minutes in full stage. Biograph. O. K.
