[page number stamped: 316] CRITICISM [FOR SHOW?] KEITH’S THEATRE, PHILA., PA. AUG. 31ST [Leon & ??]- 12 mins.- Gar. in [??]- Men and woman, juggling specialities. They dress the stage prettily, and [??] make a first-rate opening act. Hafford & Worth- 13 mins. - Open in one- Landscape in 4- Two men, billed “descriptive artists.” They sing and tell stories. One has tenor voice; other baritone. Voices, fair; stories, fair. They pose too much. Dress neatly; fair act. Received good hand. Never will be better than three-a-day. Bissonnetti & Newman- [10?] mins. Gar. in 3- Two man, acrobats and hand balancers. Top man is too heavy for easy handling. They have a fair to good act, but not a “big” one. Received a “small” hand. Ingram & Neall. 12 mins. In one- Boy and girl; local act, singing and dancing; good dancers; fair singers. Act fair to good. Wordette & [??]—18 mins. – C. D. F. in 3 – Man and woman, in a sketch “A Honeymoon in the Catskills;” has a new woman since last here. Man looks as tough as ever. Sketch seems to have improved since last here. Was received with much laughter and applause. Brooks Bros.- 15 mins. In one—Haven’t usually gone exceptionally strong here, but to-day they made a real laughing hit; went very strong, having the large audience with them thoughout. Albano Troupe- 15 mins. – Palace in 3- Four women and one man, in a musical act, introducing banjos, mandolins, harp, bells, concertinas, etc. Troupe made a fine appearance. They are apparently excellent musicians—artists—and were well received. Have a novelty in the musical flowers—bouquets containing bells. Nice Twins- 12 mins. in one—Boy and girl, in the old singing act. Girl improves in voice, figure and beauty. Boy to-day looked like a “dub,” with glued hair, old shoes, and an impossible minstrel collar. A good singing act—and was received as such. Francis Gerard- 15 mins. – Gar. in 3- Strong man, opens with cabinet poses a la Sandow, and seems to have as good a development. He is graceful and agile and introduces many new tricks in equilibrium. An excellent sight act. Was received with liberal applause. Kitty Mitchell- 10 mins. in one – Character songs. For the place given her on the bill, she seemed a big weak. Created very little laughter; she received a “small” hand, but was not received the way an act should be in the place she held. Foy & Clark- 25 mins. – Spec. Set- Man and woman, in a sketch “The Springs of Youth;” an excellent comedy sketch; created much laughter, and went with the hurrah it deserved. Proved a very strong comedy card. Harry Davenport- 15 mins. in one—Singing and comedy act. Some walked out at the start, but the majority liked his work. He is undoubtedly an artist—so much a one that many couldn’t climb up to his level. He should come down to them. Goolman’s Dogs & Cats- 15 mins.- Landscape in 4- Held over second week; a corking cat and dog act. Geo. H. Wood- 15 mins. in one- “The somewhat different comedian”—and he is; made a laughing hit to-day; proved a strong act. Holloway Trio- 12 mins. – Spec. set in 4 – Greatest wire act on earth. Biograph- 15 mins. in one- some good race views; very good selection. Summary: - The show is an excellent one. The three-a-day acts are particularly strong. The others are mostly up to the standard—and better. The show went smoothly, with snap, vim, laughter and applause. Will draw us big money this week. H. A. DANIELS.
