324 REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, KEITH'S THEATRE, WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 7TH, 1903. (CHARLES LOVENBERG) It was very hard to get a line on the show owing to the fact of the holiday audience, as they seemed most pleased with the three a day slap stick stuff and the best of our acts went off rather tamely; so I will give a report on my own opinion rather than that of the audience. Ray & Benned Aerial ladder act, introducing contortion and ring work. One man straight, the other Clown. There is more merit in this act aside from the comedy, than any of the others that I know. 11 min. full stage, but the act could be worked in 2. Three shows. Davi Man and woman, colored, singing and dancing act. The man does some very clever eccentric and acrobatic dancing but he is far from funny and the woman who sings a ballad has a very metallic soprano voice. I can only rate the act as fair. 11 min. in one, 3 shows. Maybelle Eckert. Songs and recitation. She just gets by, and that is all. 10 min. in one. Three shows. Earl & Wilson. Musical comedy act. This act was a great surprise for in it we found a woman who is actually funny, most as much so as the comedienne of the Elinor Sisters. She makes up as an eccentric country girl and has a very funny line of talk, and the novelty of the woman doing the comedy and the man, the straight work is very acceptable. The musical portion of the act is very fair especially the electrical bells, which made a hit. The act is good enough to go in almost any part of the bill. 23 min. 3 min. in one, three shows. Brooks Brothers. In the same act they have usually done on the circuit. 18 minutes in one, three shows. Prince Kokin. Japanese Juggler. While his work is not great in any sense, he is so graceful and clean looking that the act meets with approval and must be classed as very good. 15 min. in three, 2 shows. The Avon Comedy Four. These fellows do a very clever vocal comedy act with a school-room scene but it is rather coarse and I am a little apprehensive as to just how our regular audience will accept it. With the holiday crowd they were about the hit of the show. They open in 2 and close in one. 25 min. 3 shows It must be classed as a good act. Frank Keenan & Co. In the "Actor and the Count". As this act has played all over the circuit, comment in detail, is unnecessary, suffice to say it is one of the most artistic sketches we have had. 30 min. in three. Harry Davenport. A great deal of artistic work is shown in this man's rendition of two simple little songs, and with the more intelligent and refined portions of the audience he is bound to score. 12 min. in one, 2 shows. Wayburn's Minstrel Misses. Strangely, these girls didn't get much applause, although personally I think it a very strong act., although I am in doubt as to the advisability of playing them three weeks in each of the other houses. I am very glad I have them for only one week here. It certainly is a great novelty and is bound to set people talking and will draw money surely for a week. 232 min. full stage. Two shows. ...we are getting some very good....[covered] and in my mind they fully off-set the short comings. If we can keep up as good pictures as they are sending us this week, it will be all right.
