330 BIJOU THEATRE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 14TH ---- CRITICISM STEREOPTICON: Interesting. THE CASTANOS: Rather weak; almost impossible for the fat girl of the team to be a whirlwind dancer. We had too much show, and sent them to the Chestnut Street house as the latter was shy of show. Palace 4 -- 3 shows. ROBERT CARTER & CO: Below three a day average formerly maintained here. C. D. Fancy -- 3 shows. TOMMY BAKER:Acceptable singing in this part of the programme. Darp. 1-- 3 s. BISSONNETTE & NEWMAN: Good specialty, acrobatic, and would furnish good entertainment further down the programme. Garden 3 -- 3 shows. DEVERE SISTERS; a sister act of average three a day quality; quite a quantity of clothes; scarcely up to our former standard for this kind of act. Drapery 1 -- 3 shows. BARR & EVANS: Good act; effective as ever. C.D. Fancy Close 1 -- 3 shows. MARGARET SCOTT: Good vocal turn, although girl lacks stage presence, grace and clothes. Drapery 1 -- 3 shows. WILLIS FAMILY: One of the most valuable acts in vaudeville; would divide honors with almost any headliner; probably nothing better in the straight musical line. Palace 4-- 2 shows. LEIGHTON & LEIGHTON: Unusually good three a day turn, dancing; Street 1. RENO & RICHARDS: As strong as ever; hit of the show. Garden 4, close 1, 2 s. EUGENE O'ROURKE & Co: Have never regarded his as a "legitimate" bact of 1st class, yet he went about as well as heretofore; and unusually well considering that he followed Reno & Richards. C.D. Fancy 3 -- 2 shows. MARK SULLIVAN: His act went about as well as heretofore, material about the same as before; much of his stuff is not entitled to first rate classification. Drapery 1 -- 2 shows. PALFREY & MILTON: Better than previous engagement here; much of their work as good as most of their rivals, although the comedy is not a big feature of the act. Landscape 4 -- 2 shows. HELLMAN: Third rate magician -- 3 shows. BIOGRAPH: A few good pictures; show, as a whole, 'way below former standards COMMENT: There is not so large a proportion of third-rate acts as were seen in last week's programme. With the exception of three or four turns, a good average is maintained. Throughout there is better entertainment than last week, although nothing is so successful as were Ed. Hayes and James Thorton Another encouraging fact is that we have fifteen acts instead of the dozen which had to be stretched to the show's disadvantage last week. To ensure business the show should be all right from 8 P.Ml. on; this week's bill is a step in that direction. John J. Keirans, Mgr.
