HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J. JOHN C. PEEBLES. Week of april 3, 1911. FIVE EMPIRE GIRLS, Singing Act. This act died such a horrible death this afternoon #3 that I moved it to this spot tonight where it got by in much better shape than at the matinee. The girls are pretty, act is well costumed but the material is bad and but two of the girls have voices. In its present shape the act is only suitable for the very smaller time. C.D. Fcy in 3, close in 1, 3 min. Time 13 min. GRUET & GRUET, Blackface musical act. Two men in a mildly amusing blackface musical act which got by in this spot in good shape. Not a great act by any means but will do nicely in this spot in the best of the small time. Street in 1. Time 16 min. GRACE HYDE, Character Impersonator. That this woman possesses talent cannot be questioned but, in my opinion, she should confine her talents to a Y.M.C.A. lyceum course. She might do better before a highly cultured audience in Boston or Philadelphia. An improvement could be made by cutting down some of her opening material and getting to her bird imitations earlier. Her encore, where she gives an impression of a three day old baby's idea of the world is the best thing in the act. Olio in 1. Time 12 min. "APRIL SHOWERS." This is Joseph Hart's newest production, being one of the acts recently presented at a Lamb's Gambol. It is a pretty sketch with an entertaining story which contains some heart interest and a little quiet comedy. Would do nicely anywhere. Well acted and well staged, the storm effect being very good. Sam Reed, the old comedian, formerly with DeWolf Hopper in "Wang" is featured. Own set in 3. Time 21 min. JANE COURTHOPE & CO., "Lucky Jim." A pretty dramatic sketch, too well known to need description. Went very big here today. Own set in 4. Time 19 min. LEE WHITE & GEO. PERRY, Comedy Conversational Vocalists. The big applause hit of today's show. The audience was just waiting for something in the way of life and action and they certainly got it in this act. Not only did they carry off the applause honors but they literally stopped the show at the matinee and were forced to make a speech. Miss White is dainty in her work and Perry makes an excellent "straight" to work to. This act ought to please on any program. Olio in 1. Time 16 min. FOUR JOSSELINS, Aerial Statuary. A pretty sight act that is rather too quiet for a closing act. Went well. Own drop in 3. Time 10 min.
